Okay, checked it and I've got indeed the captcha image for Sakura Taisen. Everything else is fine though.

Also getting a captcha instead of whatever Sakura Taisen should be.

Leaving this shit alone. Something is seriously mucked up, and again I'm guessing that whoever did this is selectively showing different people different, relatively obscure, things that are altered.

All images should be correct at this point. If you are seeing odd ones, clear your cache.

Is fixed. Still wondering what precisely happened and why it is fixed now.

Also looking for confirmation on IP corrections.

Okay, looks like the last fix took.

Some time around 3AM Pacific time, the ftp service on the server that shadows 'static' went haywire and scrambled the names of the image files.

The reason the shadow copies files from 'static' is so that it can take over when static needs to do something offline, like run its backups or refresh a software version.

Backup time rolled around for static, which caused the handoff to the shadow, the one with the upscrewed filenames.

Then just for chuckles, both servers stayed online as 'static', meaning that it would be a complete crapshoot which server answered you when you asked for an image file.

I'm still looking at the ftp service to see what caused the haywireness, which is why all image uploading is off at the moment.

That explains why the I Ps are all in the same domain at least. So now the question becomes "how did the filenames end up scrambled like that" and also "why do we have captcha images on the shadow server."

So, everything's fine?

Tzetze: Does it really matter? The question reminds me of a Lenny Bruce routine. "You have to help me, I got hepatitis." "What? How?" "...from painting houses the fuck's it matter, I got it."

Eh, true.

I will say this - apart from the frustration caused by this little incident, there were many lols had over at Image Pickin'. It's like they thought people were actually changing images to stuff that doesn't make sense on purpose or something.

I missed this, what with sleeping late and the fact that this MacBook's Firefox 3.6 seemed fine.

I wonder what would have happened if I tried it on one of the house's Windows machines. Glad I didn't.

Wait, rooted in brain-fart. Nevermind!

^As a Mac user with a Firefox browser, I'd image the result would be the same thing that happened to everybody.

Yes, the problem was server-side.

And, Goggle Fox, there are CAPTCHAs used for Get Known's changepass dialog.

Was unrelated to browser, related to two servers occupying the same DNS space. If you say "Sam?" and two people answer you, you have to pick one. If you don't know which one, you pick at random. That's more or less what happened here.

Okay, so now I understand fully what happened as far as the images. I'm less worried about the side-effects of this now, as it's just an internal problem.

DYRE's avatar is a picture of someone in a racecar now, and it's replaced the file that it used to be.
