Why not Wolfenstein 3D? Sure, it's kind of outdated nowadays, but it's still fun.
People aren't as awful as the internet makes them out to be.

Rt CW adds zombies to the recipe, something both Castle Wolfenstein and Wolfenstein 3d avoided, IIRC. The 2009 Wolfenstein I did not play, so can't help you there.
Videogames do not make you a worse person... Than you already are.Wolfenstein (as in the recent one) sucks. It tries to ape the gameplay of Call of Duty, which is lame for a series that invented the genre. Regenerating health has no place in a Wolfenstein game.
Return to Castle Wolfenstein is okay. Honestly, the series hasn't been all that relevant since Wolfenstein 3D. There's nothing special or groundbreaking about the later games.

RtCW feels exactly like one part Indiana Jones, one part Medal of Honor, switching between the two level-by-level. In other words, campy, splashy, and lots of fun. The platinum version has the original Wolf 3D if you need another copy, too.
But but but RTCW has an undead Teutonic prince that's brought back from the dead by a Goth chick turning a trio of Nazi cyberzombies with rocket launcher/lightning cannon/gatling gun arms into skeleton nights, and then the prince turns the Goth chick into a zombie and you fight the prince with a flamethrower!
I dunno about relevant but IT'S SO FUCKING COOL.

Except that the original, pre-Carmack Wolfenstein games were awesome 2d top-down stealth action games with action not dissimilar to what Metal Gear Solid eventually delivered some fifteen years later - sneaking around in disguises, holding people at gunpoint, etc.
Videogames do not make you a worse person... Than you already are.Wolfenstein '09 isn't worth your money that much. The Single-player feels more suited to consoles, the multiplayer is abominable, and Return To Castle Wolfenstein is more worth it.
I grabbed Rtcw awhile ago on some steam sale that i can't remember and only started playing it for real a few days ago. It's fun, but ever since i picked up the silenced sten i've used nothing but it. Also the grenades suck.
I'm interested in playing '09 too cause it's got the makings of a similarly campy but fun romp.
You are not alone.Wolfenstein is worth a rent. Nice guns, good set pieces, but nothing much after you beat the game.
Ahahahahahahaaaaa
Half-Life: Dual Nature, a crossover story of reasonably sized proportions.Well, it sounds like maybe I should try Return to Castle Wolfenstein first, then.

I've wanted to try Wolfenstein for several years.
Well, at least remotely so. I don't really like FPS games, but Wolftenstein has Those Wacky Nazis. And as a fan of Martial Industrial, that's a really fun trope. Anyway, interested enough that I may be interested in buying one of the games soon enough. Reminded to me by a topic I made recently.
And so I was wondering, what Wolfenstein game should I start off with? I look at Return to Castle Wolfenstein and Wolfenstein2009 on Amazon, and go "hmmm, I don't know".
I'd like a little nudge out the door.
