Because you can't go up twice. Once for bold, and once for caps. Gradual growth is the joke.

If we're not going to get this back, might I heartily recommend locking BRIAN BLESSED and Portal to prevent future edits from breaking their markups?

Edit: What the heck is "demsnstrating"?

Boss Subtitles. It was used to good effect in Boss Subtitles. Not strictly necessary, but effective.

Shouldn't be as simple as let the syntax live in wiki, not in forums? In wiki has good practical usage, and the wiki is to be a more controlled zone anyway.

Yeah, go back up to the top of this thread, and you'll see that Fast Eddie removed it from the wiki specifically. Its loss on the forums is apparently a side-effect.

Small text is part of the Laconic template, specifically the "main article is here" part. Every single Laconic Wiki page uses it, or is supposed to.

If you need to shrink the Portal joke, just use subscript.

Sorry, guys. MySpace died for a reason. Crowd-sourced design awfulness. We can't let that happen here.

I have to disagree with the folks that thought some things worked because of embiggening of fonts. They didn't work for me at all.

That would be a better argument if people actually used the code. Well over 99% of the pages use the same standard layout without trying anything unusual. The only pagetype that people get experimental with is the character pages, and those rarely use size tags.

Fast Eddie: in Myspace, they had background colors, Flash, blinks, snowy effects, fairly permissive standards and crappy music for people to do whatever shit they wanted to do with them no matter if it had sense or not. Here what we have is... well, text with a couple of well-defined tags, images and links. Where the good things are used where they bring good effect (for example looking at NO INDOOR VOICE).

I could understand taking such format out of the forums, but out of the wiki it's like taking tables out of a wiki article.

It's a weird impression I get fro this change but I hope you're not trying to compare yourself (nor your work) down to... well... "those" things.

Since the problem seems to be (mostly) around emboldened and bigger fonts, can we have back the shrunken and smaller fonts until the situation reaches an agreement? I have used both of them, but I understand if the situation is trolling vs. sustainability that you would want to eliminate the bigger ones.

↑↑A very good start.

I think it would be useful the proposal I saw a couple of posts/threads before, with a single [[small:...]] or [[large:...]] markup. Hardly any pages need more than that, and for those explicit markup to which the admins have access can suffice. Because they surely have some auth-based markup, right?

Large doesn't work. It always look juvenile and bad. There are a zillion other ways to emphasize text.

What about on pages in the wiki? Can't it be put back there at least?

As for the fora, they are supposed to be enjoyable. If people enjoy using enlarged fonts every so often, then why is there a problem? I haven't seen this being abused, and if it were, banning/warning the abuser would be easily enforceable; these fora aren't all that big.

Could you please stop taking stuff away? If it gets out of hand, then you can remove it.
