I guess one could explain it as their asshole dad knocking up Travis' mom and ditching her for a couple years to shack up with Jeane's mom, only to go back to Travis' mom.

Their dad's a real piece of work - reminds me of Tomaru Sawagoe.

Speaking of Jeane, it's interesting that Travis named both his cat and his daughter(?) after her despite hating her for killing his parents. Part of him still treasured their past relationship even if it was a lie (and surprise incest).

Then there's Travis and Henry having different last names despite being twin brothers, or Henry marrying Sylvia when they were in their mid-teens. By the end of the first game, Travis and Henry are 27, Jeane is 25, and Sylvia is 24. Henry and Jeane were supposed to have been married for 10 years.

[up]There is the picture that he still keeps.

Speaking of improbable ages...Doctor Naomi. She's supposed to be in her sixties, yet still looks like she's in her twenties.

Henry's different last name could simply be due to him being put up for adoption upon birth (which might explain why Travis had no idea he existed) and adopted by the Cooldowns.

TBF, most of the last names in the series are fairly normal, even if the people attached to said names are very much not normal.

Did we ever get Speed Buster's real name? Or is that her real name?

Speaking of names, Travis' new bike has one.

Suda seems like a nice boss to work for and a humble person to be around. I missed it, but here's his formal announcement of the postponing of 3, and appreciation to the fans for their patience.

Sorry folks, looks like Travis is in Smash, but only as a Mii Swordfighter costume.

The first two games are getting re-released on the Switch for $18 apiece. Like, right now.

"That is so... sublime."

I'm still not yet buying a Switch until I've cleared more of my backlog, but I'll likely get them.

I'D HAVE BEEN HAPPIER IF TRAVIS WAS HIS OWN CHARACTER IN SMASH THOUGH...

Well.

... fuck me sideways.

If instead of NMH 1 it was Hero's Paradise that'd be an instant-buy, but as is, I don't think I can shell out the $18 to get a game for the third time (inferior to one of those times) just so I can play it portable.

... no issues picking up NMH 2, though.

Wait, since I never played Heroes Paradise, how do we know this won't be that? Just the lack of the subtitle?

These.

... actually the loss of "Heavenly Star" is pretty major. Let me know if that's in this version.

[up] It's interesting that you preferred the PS 3 version, since others have criticized it as a mediocre port with worse controls and constant glitches.

I know that there are differences, as I'd looked it up. But what from the trailer suggests that it wouldn't include the improvement differences (and not the ones that made the experience worse)?

Well, it's possible, but you'd think that if they included the extra content, it would be mentioned in the trailer. It's not mentioned in the product description, as well.

I went ahead and got NMH 2. Skipped 1, because I had more fun with the sequel.

really

I'm curious why that is.

I think they both had ups and downs, but 1 wins out for me out of nostalgia and having an open map (bare as it was).

I like the mini-games better in 2; the first ones were more a chore than anything else. And there was so little to do in Santa Destroy proper that I didn't miss the overworld in the next game. Plus, I liked changing up beam katanas with different strengths and weaknesses, instead of simply upgrading them like in the first game.

Also, the clothing selection was better.

[up][up][up]What happened to the direct video? It's not even been a day yet.

I’m interested in 2, which I never played, but I’m admittedly a bit hesitant after playing No More Heroes: Travis Strikes Again, which got really pretentious at points, particularly when it concerned Suda 51 airing his feelings on past projects.

Well, I've never played TSA, but "pretentious" is not a word I've ever seen associated with Desperate Struggle. If you liked the first NMH, the second is mostly the same, with some refinement.

TSA was basically Suda emotionally working through the trauma of making a game for EA.
