I was expecting something horrible from the thread title, but I like this.
Infinite Tree: an experimental storyMe Too!, +1, other affirmations of "I generally like it" without anything usefull to add.
You mean like a Featured Article or a Barn Star? I could get behind that.
So we're doing it with notability now? :D Just kidding. It's a fun idea.

- Longest Time In The Repair Shop
I would like to nominate Rid Me Of This Priest for this one. At the rate things are going, it's still going to be in there by the time January rolls around.

Accidental mistakes are forgivable, intentional ones are not.My main concern is that this'd probably turn into a popularity contest and only the big tropes (Magnificent Bastard, Badass Longcoat, Deadpan Snarker, etc.) would get attention.
Fair point.
We could require people give reasons for awards not given on a purely statistical basis.
Another option would be to create another forum for discussion related to the awards.
Yet another option would be to only allow a given article to win an award so many times in a year.
Here's another "award":
- Most Over-hyped Article

Accidental mistakes are forgivable, intentional ones are not.If we added a featured article award like most wikis have, that would encourage people to do stuff like clean up natter and properly format examples.
I'm all for it.
That's a good point.
There might not be enough time left in the month to have awards in January, but we could certainly start preparing for the February 2011 round now.
For some purely-statistical awards, we could have them automatically awarded. Some fairly simple scripting on the server could handle those. For example, Most Rapid Wick Acquisition could be awarded by comparing the wicks for articles at the start and end of a month and using a simple difference to find out which one gained the most wicks over that month.

And dammit, the loss of [+size+] markup has hurt Portal's page.

But soft! What rock through yonder window breaks? It is a brick! And Juliet is out cold.Natch! I was making a suggestion for a category. Also, if the category is adopted, those'd be my nominations.
But soft! What rock through yonder window breaks? It is a brick! And Juliet is out cold.Okay, here are the suggested categories so far:
- Article Of The Month
- Article Of The Year
- Best Repair Shop Work (TRS thread has to have been locked within the last month)
- Best New Article (launched within the last month without having to be sent to TRS)
- Funniest Article
- Most Frequent Visitor To The Repair Shop (annual Medal of Dishonor)
- Longest Time In The Repair Shop (annual Medal of Dishonor)
- Most Over-hyped Article
- Most Rapid Wick Acquisition (purely statistical, could be automated)

“I just think that's really shady." "Shady?!" - Stephanie & Chad, The Amazing Race 17The only places on This Wiki where a bunch of tropers reaching a popular, opinionated consensus yields anything of productive value are the Repair Shop and Image Pickin' forums.
A bunch of tropers getting together and deciding a bunch of dubious honors for wiki articles and other content isn't something we need. Hell, adding subjective accolades to the wiki sounds like it would only reduce the fun factor around here—not enhance it. When I launch a new trope or article, I like having the satisfaction of that alone being a worthy contribution to this place; I don't want to have to worry about tropers picking and choosing which contributions are better than others on top of that.

Something I've learned from award shows.

Put me in motion, drink the potion, use the lotion, drain the ocean, cause commotion, fake devotion, entertain a notion, be Nova Scotian

I've had this idea floating around for a couple of weeks.
We could put out awards on a regular basis for articles as a way of saying thanks to our contributors. For how often, I'd say once a month with a few annual ones. I'd suggest awarding the monthly ones on the 1st of the month and the annual ones on the 31st of December and starting in 2011.
Here are a few to start:
Which articles get which awards could be voted on by the tropers via the existing crowner system. Winners could be listed on a new index (with maybe a link to the awards index on the Home Page).
