But the Battlefield we've seen has very different backgrounds for the Wii U and 3DS versions.

I sure said that!

Couldn't it change over to the 3DS version when connected since the Wii U has more data and space to do so? I don't think that poses any real problems.

I can understand if he doesn't want to do that, though. I like the idea of easily unlocking everyone if some of the games changes it up so certain characters are easier to get. For instance(ignore which characters I mention, just pay attention to the concept. I am not saying they are definitely in at all.), Lucario could be easy on the Wii U version to unlock, and Mewtwo could be the easier one on the 3DS version to unlock.

This could encourage people to get both versions to unlock everyone a bit faster. Or for friends to work together for a full roster. It's a neat idea. Not that I think it'll happen, but Sakurai has so much potential with connectivability that I hope he attempts more than "you can bring a slightly customized character in".

Can you please get out of this mindset? This is speculation, that it is not definite is assumed by the nature of the conversation. Constantly popping in to remind everyone that things aren't confirmed every time someone speculates is super annoying.

No, Moth 13, I cannot. Because I know people will say those things and it's better to make sure they pay attention to my point. Especially after people have very consistently ignored my point and went for the unnecessary details.

...Which is exactly what is being done right now. I am not talking about which characters, just the concept. So please pay attention to the concept, not the examples. -_-

Likewise, that had nothing to do with my point either. Putting in a disclaimer so people don't take what I say wrong(again, notably) is downright necessary at this point. I shouldn't have to, but it's clear by now I have to be specific to avoid confusion.

He only brought up that because of the disclaimer, mind.

It'd be interesting to have different unlock requirements depending on the version. It could potentially be annoying if done poorly, but it could be done well.

@Enlong: Let's say Luigi and Jigglypuff are both hidden again. Since they're only two hidden among all 3 games, they have something in common. I like similar cases to mirror each other in this regard.

Here's a full example;

3DS: Jigglypuff 50 Matches, Luigi 500 Matches
Wii U: Jigglypuff 500 Matches, Luigi 50 Matches

Something akin to that. I'm sure there's better mirrors for character unlocks. I could see a similar thing with Mewtwo and Lucario, or Sonic and Snake, etc. Speaking of, who thinks Luigi actually might be a starter for once? tongue

I wonder if Bowser's Final Smash will still be Giga Bowser or something else. I wouldn't think a whole lot of Final Smashes will get changed (other than Landmasters, hopefully), but with Bowser getting his moveset refreshed, they might go for something different.

Speaking of refreshing movesets, i'm gonna do this little poll to see the thoughts:

  • 1.) Why do you think Yoshi still hasn't shown back up despite the other original 8 members plus even Luigi already confirmed back?
    • Yoshi's getting his moves a makeover like Bowser.
    • They're waiting for a meaningful date in Yoshi history to celebrate by revealing him.
    • They're wanting a new stage to go along with him, but it's unfinished.
    • They just haven't gotten around to it/don't wanna oversaturate with Peach already being revealed this month.

  • 2.) Other (M tongue) than Ridley, what chararacter would you want that could actually challenge/beat Bowser at being the biggest playable character?

  • 3.) Regardless of the series themselves, what would you use for the series crest for any games that don't already have them.

  • 4.) Never mind your opinions on DLC in Smash or otherwise, if DLC for both versions is unavoidable, would you rather get new content for each/both version(s) or the stages and other doodads from the opposite version first?

  • 5.) Two-parter: What new special mode options would you want, and would you seperate the choices that don't cancel each other out, or keep them merged like Brawl?

I think they could go Koopa Klown Car.

1: Has Yarn Yoshi been released yet in Japan? Maybe it's waiting for that first.

2: Giga Bowser. Well, there's Kraid, Mega Mewtwo X(design), Porky... who knows who could be playable, even if it's a silly Boss Mode.

3: A wooden staff showing the four elemental stones for Brian from Quest 64. The literal Golden Sun for Isaac. Maybe a Ghost for Pac-Man? Not sure on that one so much. Fun ideas, though.

4: Some from the other version first. I very much support non-paid DLC. Namely characters for both versions for old clones that really don't seem to have a need for non-cloning(Dr. Mario and Pichu, mainly)

5: Oh, god, separate them. Boss Mode. Both versions of Handicap back, indefinitely. I thought both were very unique, but I'd like to choose which kind. Not sure how to label them, although one could be Handicap(Percent) while the other is Handicap(Number). First one is the same as Brawl's. Second one is Melee's style.

  • Boxing glove that's about to punch you for Punch-Out!!, a W for The Wonderful 101, and I'll come up with more later. Oh, and I would have changed Kid Icarus to a wing, but it's still the bow according to the website.
  • New content
  • No idea for new modes, and please seperate them.

Not me. Could happen though. It's just Sakurai's wording and the circumstances of his unveiling that make me doubt it.

wild mass guessMewtwo will come back in For. with the ability to change into his Mega form as a Final Smash: Mega Mewtwo X in one version and Mega Mewtwo Y in the other! Connecting the 3DS lets you pick which form you want to change into for his Final Smash!wild mass guess

Either way, I have faith that Sakurai will make those two versions different enough to make me justify having both, but I'm gonna go for the version which comes out first.

Assuming Final Smashes stay, first. The other factor is that he outright said "the characters will have the same movesets in each", so I... kind of doubt one version will have it but not the other. Or to put it another way, jossed, sadly. Albeit, that entirely depends if one considers a person's Final Smash directly part of their moveset, or no more than a Taunt/Victory Taunt, which aren't "notable". I consider them all part of the moveset, but YMMV here. I do remember him saying more along the lines of "playing the same", though. I'll have to recheck the interview. But I'm pretty sure as awesome as that idea is, it's currently jossed. However, that was a long time ago, and he also notably said "movesets could be changed later on", while it doesn't contradict his first point, he may not stick to his earlier one either. Case in point; He said Villager was way too peaceful to play in Smash Bros. Who's playable now? So, for now, it's best to think there would be one Final Smash for Mewtwo, but that could change.

I like both versions of Mega Mewtwo, mind you.

Never mind, then.

Maybe if we're lucky he'll cut down on the transformation Final Smashes, since most of those(this includes Landmasters for what I mean) tend to have been rather stupid in design. They were all almost invincible. Except Giga for some reason.(and the lag he got from being attacked, oy...)

But it's not really shipping if they're the Official Couple is it?

Still, nice pic considering they just put Mario right next to Peach and waited for her to do one of her Idle Animations. I really hope these screenshots are indicative of the kind players can take within the game, minus things like that tunnel we saw a while ago.

Peach has that ring in other pictures. The question is, why is it showing that scene. Could be some kind of cutscene? Or maybe it's part of the normal ending pictures when you beat Classic and All-Star(and Melee-style Adventure Mode). Could be anything.

Not sure if they truly are an Official Couple or it's just suggested as the pairing, though. I don't remember any stories where they're actually a couple. Cause technically speaking, Peach never dated him at all, just hung out, and she was married to Bowser in a storyline unrelated to the rest of the series. Yep, just checked. It's implied, but not outright said. It's also suggested Mario should take Peach out on a date, but they never do.(among the games, unless I missed an event)

Peach does have a Ring on in Brawl as well. So it's probably just implied as the status of their relationship, but never directly said. Makes sense, obviously.

It ain't a cut scene; Peach has an idle animation where she picks at her hands (it's the same one used in that "height comparison" pic where it looks like she's adjusting/measuring Miss Fit's waist). Mario just happens to be standing next to her, doing his usual bouncing idle animation (his fist is still clenched, which I pretty sure he wouldn't be doing if he just gave her that ring).

The combination of all that makes for a neat screenshot though.

I'm aware there's never been any official word of Mario and Peach's status as a couple, but they have many instances where they're implied to be one.

Note my edits. It's pretty much implied, and the only time they weren't is Super Paper Mario, since Bowser and Peach are married during the events of it. They never actually divorced, although most would argue the marriage was made fake later or something like that.

But that doesn't apply for the regular games, since Paper Mario has an entirely different storyline while being based around some of the regular Mario stuff.

Anyway, I forgot it was in Brawl as well. And Brawl doesn't have Paper Mario, Paper Bowser, or Paper Peach, sooooooooo... I guess Sakurai either wants to keep that their status or is just showing off silly stuff again. tongue Filler exists.

Wedding Peach was a trophy in Brawl, if that matters. And, ignoring the fact that the RPGs are spin-offs for the moment, I'm pretty sure Bowser and Peach aren't actually still married considering she had to be hypnotized to do it in the first place and the fact that their marriage broke their world. It is amusing to say that since they're never seen divorcing, they're still technically married, but I don't remember Bowser or Peach (but especially Bowser) bringing up their marriage up again at all in the game after Mario finds them.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't there some rumor that Paper Mario was going to be in the fourth game? Or is that just the same "possible character speculation" that every other character gets?

The literal Golden Sun for Isaac

I beg to differ on that. The Golden Sun event wasn't really an attack so much as it was a massive release of Alchemy back into the world. I'd be more inclined to give Isaac (or Matthew) Judgement (if he doesn't have Summons in his main repertoire), Odyssey, Titan Blade, or Meggido.

[up] Isaac gets the Golden Sun itself at the end of the second game. Also, the overall series to me should be repped by that particular item. But to each their own.

[up][up] Speculation. Only rumors that so far were correct that I know of had Wii Fit Trainer, Mega Man, Villager, Mii, Pac Man, and Little Mac. We have yet to see if those are correct, and only half showed up. Also, his prediction came awfully close to the release of the Trailer, so who knows? It's on the Neogaf forums. Tiny list, too. I kind of liked an odd earlier list that had both Little Mac and King Hippo in it. Namely because of King Hippo(it also had Ridley, who is awesome).

Actually, Isaac is imbued with a portion of the energy from the Golden Sun event, because the Wise One put some of that energy into the Mars Star he was carrying throughout both games. This was to prevent Alex from gaining all of that energy and becoming omnipotent. The Golden Sun wasn't an item anyone carried, nor an attack anyone could use. It was a gathering of energy above Mt. Aleph that signaled the return of Alchemy.
