@Faw's point:
With the fact that Lucas came along side Roy and Ryu, I think Sakurai's had that sort of "easy upgrade" mentality since then.
Sure, the character models would need to be refined for higher definitions, re-balancing would be done, and probably tweaks for moveset clones are likely, but it likely they learned their lessons from the 64-to-Melee and Melee-to-Brawl days, at least.
I think you'd be better off with the dream that one day Mii Fighters will have clothing options that aren't complete nonsense no one ever asked for.

Oh, I guess. I was just a little confused because, I don't know if they took any shortcuts with Lucas, but it was my understanding that they pretty much rebuilt everything from scratch for Smash 4 (and for Melee of course, not sure about Brawl), and I took that as part of my point because I figured that they really put in the effort to do things right so they would never have to perform a complete do-over again.
(That's including issues like file formats and such, too - I think some do-overs might have been forced by compatibility issues before. I think.)
[...]
So I think there will be another Smash Bros for a later console, but they won't have to build everything from scratch again and instead work on refining what they already have.
I sincerely hope that's the case.
I mean, Smash is absolutely nothing without its roster* . Not taking some kind of precautions to ease things for future titles would be very dangerous for the series; game development is zero-sum, so adding newcomers does mean veterans have less time to be worked on.

The 15th. 2pm Pacific / 5pm Eastern / 10pm UK and 11pm CET.
Fittingly for me, the day after my birthday, which is when I'm expecting a New 3DS specifically for making Smash 3D less of an ordeal.

"It's liberating, realizing you never need to be competent." — UltimatepheerMy thinking is that it'd be the lab from Gyromite, complete with red and blue pillars that shift between two positions, styled like the Subspace Bomb Factory areas in Subspace Emissary.
Don't forget, R.O.B. wasn't a general-use peripheral, instead being meant for two particular games and nothing else.

I sure said that!

I only just found out that Lil' Mac has the best walljump
And Greninja has the worst walljump
I can't get over this.
