I main Random nowadays.
I tend to get a lot less discouraged when playing as a random character than I do as a main. When I get utterly curbstomped after choosing a main, it feels like I've been cut down at my best and can never improve. When I get utterly curbstomped as a random character, it feels like I still have room for doubt.
"It's liberating, realizing you never need to be competent." — UltimatepheerI don't really find Robin running out of tomes/Levin Swords to be that much of a problem. Catching a discarded tome or sword immediately makes you more threatening. Even if you don't catch it, I've had a discarded sword or tome save me from getting hit a lot of times. The period waiting for it to come back isn't too awful aside from maybe Arcfire.
Only things that really bug me about Robin is everything about Robin's grab and Elwind can only be used twice. I don't think you should limit an average recovery like Elwind. I'd want it to either be used 4 times like with Celica's Gale or just until the tome breaks.
Yeah, discarded Levin Swords are always fun. Probably one of my favorite things about the character.
"It's liberating, realizing you never need to be competent." — UltimatepheerStill trying. Still failing. In fact, I am sure I have gotten even worse at this game. I can't even beat the AI reliably with who I thought was my main until recently (Mario). If I can't even beat the AI, I don't really have any hope to improve at this game.
Wish I still had the confidence I once had when I bought this game :/
Avatar by Pastel Mistress: http://pastelmistress.deviantart.com/Out of the newcomers I tend to use the Villager, Pac Man, Bowser Jr/Koopalings, and Ryu the most. Most of my other mains are veteran characters.
I play with Robin from time to time, enough to consider him/her one of my secondaries. I have yet to master his/her moveset but he/she is one of my favorite characters in the game.
"I'm glad I don't wear shoes or else I'd have to always get shoes in two different sizes. ...If you know, you know!"saaaaaaame
It makes me kinda sad whenever I pick up a random character and consider them fun enough to be a "main," hehe.
Anyways, of the newcomers! Shulk is one of my mains, and I also enjoy playing as Robin, Little Mac, and Wii Fit Trainer a fair deal~
🏳️⚧️she/her | Vio Rhyse AlberiaMy favorite newcomer is Duck Hunt, though I'm pretty good with Pac-Man and Rosalina for some reason.
"It's liberating, realizing you never need to be competent." — UltimatepheerYou guys talking about your most played newcomers and I'm like "... Yeah."
Here's the ratio of veterans who are mains and newcomers who are mains for me:
VETERANS: Link, Samus, Fox, Luigi, Captain Falcon, Jigglypuff, Bowser, Marth, Falco, Mewtwo, Roy, Wario, Meta Knight, Pit, Lucas, Ike, Sonic. Sometimes I use Lucario, Donkey Kong, Mario, Peach, Kirby, King Dedede and Olimar
NEWCOMERS: Mega Man, Little Mac, Greninja, Lucina, Shulk, Ryu, and Dark Pit. Sometimes I use Pac Man and Duck Hunt
So, I use more veterans than I do newcomers.
AAAAUUUUGGGHHHH!!!!I only find one or two characters fun to play with in most fighting games.
In Marvel vs Capcom 3 I played Deadpool/Spider-Man/(whoever I feel like adding)
In Tatsunoko vs Capcom I played the two Yattermans
In Street Fighter IV I played Sakura
In Mortal Kombat 9 I played Cyber Sub-Zero and in X I played regular Sub-Zero
Smash 64 and Melee I played Mario
Brawl I played Lucas
Sm4sh I play Greninja
And in the Touhou fighting games I usually play Alice unless she's not available at which point I play Miko or Marisa.
In Melee I played Dr. Mario and Bowser.
In Brawl I played Lucas, Wario, and Bowser.
In Sm4sh I play Bowser, Bowser Jr., Wario, Donkey Kong, Ganondorf, Kirby, King Dedede, Little Mac, Falco, Pikachu, Charizard, Greninja, Duck Hunt, Captain Falcon, Dr. Mario, Pac-Man, Mega Man, Sonic, Mewtwo, Lucas, Roy, and Ryu. I don't want to expand any further than all other DLC fighters and maybe Shulk.
Call me butter, because I am on a roll! 3ds friend code: 5258-0885-3903 Wii U: Bowser Charizard@Key: Towards the game developers. You wanna make him inexplicably slow and gimp his attacks with the stupid (yet pleasantly accurate) durability mechanic? Well fuck you, I'm gonna play him till I'm great with him and to hell with your tiers.
Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.I think I have three reliable mains for each game.
SSB 64: Samus, Donkey Kong, Luigi
SSBM: Luigi, Fox, Roy
SSBB: King Dedede, Wario, Mr. Game & Watch
SSB 4: Luigi, Mr. Game & Watch, Little Mac (don't judge me)
Aside from those, Duck Hunt is a character I've been having a lot of fun with lately. He's just so good at edgeguarding.
That said, his close range game is a little difficult to get the hang of. Does anyone know of any decent Duck Hunt character guides?
No beer?! But if there's no beer, then there's no beef or beans!

I tend to play a lot of WFT and Greninja out of the newcomers, though Robin's probably not far behind.
