Ah. Well, that's a good update of Brawl's roster given the resources they have, but putting in Knuckles over Tails makes me a little salty.
Damn, Stage Clear ain't no air fighter...

tl;dr: They didn't expect anything could happen other than a C&D, but then they found out there was very real danger of being fined millions without warning if they released even one more minor patch. They're begging people not to support the leaked files because, for them, even though they stopped working on it, it could mean serious trouble.
"It's liberating, realizing you never need to be competent." — UltimatepheerLyn and Knuckles look great, for the most part I'd swear they play like they would as actual Smash characters. (Only potential bumps I'm seeing there are maybe Knuckle's neutral special, which looks more like a down special except he has a Spin Dash.)
🏳️⚧️she/her | Vio Rhyse AlberiaSo I was right about the leaked files meaning potential trouble for them?
To be honest, I was expecting them to be aware that by continuing to work on it they could recieve a sue-hammer upside the head sooner or later.
"Yeah, it's a shame. Here we are in an underground cave with all these lasers, and instead of having a rave we're using it for evil."![]()

That's a bit of an exaggeration. They're not begging so much as warning people. And it isn't the whole dev team (the dev team are the people leaking the files anyway), it's just one member of the team who's saying it might mean trouble.
But PM 3.6 is perfectly fine to use and distribute. The dev team just can't make any more versions, and unofficial "3.7" versions or whatever are actually things that are very much recommended against.
"There's not a girl alive who wouldn't be happy being called cute." ~Tamamo-no-MaeSo, impressions from the leaked version: Lyn is very, very fun to play, even if her down b isn't finished. Knuckles is too heavy for my likings? I'm not entirely sure on him. Isaac seems like he was going to be very interested, but there's not enough done with him to be sure.
Any of you want to help me find a SSB 4 character to play? In Project M and Brawl, I played Samus, Link and Zelda most, but I don't enjoy Link as much in 4 and Samus and Zelda seem to have been neutered.
I literally played 2-3 mirror CPU matches with every character in the roster before I settled on a main in Smash 4, but I don't know how other people tend to pick their mains.
Also I'd offer to play a few matches with you on 3DS while you try characters out, if that's what you're looking for, but I can't connect to internet on 3DS for a while and I don't have Wii-U Smash (yet)

Okay, I think I know a good name for fighting games of the same genre as Smash. Party fighter sounds too casual and platform fighter sounds too bland, so I was thinking "Brawler".
Brawler sounds like it encompasses the genre's whole shtick of big, crazy battles on unique arenas.
2-D Brawlers describe Smash Bros-like games and 3-D Brawlers describe Power Stone-like games.

Sorry, but Platform Fighter is already the accepted term.
"It's liberating, realizing you never need to be competent." — UltimatepheerOkay, so I've got two ideas for Smash Bros characters, one that probably will get in and one that definitely won't. I've got the B moves, playstyle, and Final Smashes down:
Isaac (the likely one): general well-balanced swordman, fast faller, his gimmick is that all of his B moves can be charged, Felix and Matthew are alternate costumes
B: Ragnarok -> Odyssey, a huge sword appears over Isaac and stabs down diagonally for 9 damage, charges into two smaller swords that stab forward diagonally for 4 damage each, locking the opponent in place, with a giant sword stabbing sideways for 8 damage that can launch
Side B: Gaia -> Mother Gaia -> Grand Gaia, Isaac holds his hand out and orange energy blasts out of the ground a short distance in front of him, each form is bigger and does more damage, damage: 7, 12, 17
Up B: Spire -> Clay Spire -> Stone Spire, Isaac creates stalactites diagonally in front and above him which fall down and hit the opponent, if Isaac does it in the air he jumps from spire to spire to recover, the spires semi-spike, Spire only creates two, Clay Spire creates three, and Stone Spire creates four, damage: 5 each, 8 each, 11 each
Down B: Quake -> Earthquake -> Quake Sphere: the ground below Isaac and the ground on either side moves up and down three times, damaging and bouncing enemies, Quake has low vertical and horizontal range, Earthquake has good vertical and horizontal range, and Quake Sphere has great vertical and horizontal range, damage: 5 each, 7 each, 9 each
Final Smash: Megiddo, Isaac's Sol Blade lets out a howl and he jumps up, the Sol Blade shines orange and Isaac comes up next to a giant meteor, Isaac hits the meteor and it comes crashing down, damaging everything it hits for 40 damage and launching
and
Reuniclus (the 'not going to happen' one), as slow as Ganondorf but with four jumps
B: Focus Blast, functions similarly to Lucario's Snaring Aura Sphere, except that it only hits once and launches, 6-24 damage
Side B: Psyshock, fires five small blue sparkling rectangles that do 3 damage each
Up B: Telekinesis, creates a ball below it which repels everything; launching Reuniclus upwards-slightly diagonally
Down B: Calm Mind, similar to Deep Breathing, increases the strength of B moves and throws, halves the damage takes by projectiles, doesn't become harder to do with consecutive uses
Side Smash: Dizzy Punch, 3-5 damage, confuses the opponent when fully charged, looks just like Sonic's Side Smash
Final Smash: Trick Room, a huge cube appears around where it's activated, Reuniclus becomes faster than Sonic and all other characters become so slow they can barely move, Reuniclus charges all charge moves instantly, Reuniclus' projectiles travel much faster, enemy projectiles travel much slower, Calm Mind is automatic

For just Cloud it's probably more than enough.
Pray to your wallet there's no other DLC that day
I remember toying around with the idea of an Isaac moveset that involved Setting up to four Venus Djinn to improve certain moves, Unleashing them with certain other moves, and then using them up with a special Summon move to call up Venus, Ramses, Cybelle, or Judgement.
So it'd be a balancing act between various attacking options.
I have a message from another time...Just for giggles, my idea for Isaac's moveset.
There are four Venus Djinn Isaac can have, represented by four Djinni icons below his damage count. When Djinn are Set, they improve the properties of certain moves. When he uses certain tilts, he can press the attack button again and a corresponding Djinni is Unleashed to improve that move, and moves them to Standby, a state where they're not improving Psynergy moves.
Relevant moves:
Forward Tilt: An overhead swipe. Unleash Geode to fling a stone projectile.
Up Tilt: an upward slash. Unleash Echo to add a follow-up swing that can launch.
Down Tilt: a low sweep. Unleash Ground to bury the target.
Dash attack: a running slash. Unleash Flint to go faster and add super armor.
Side Smash: Overhead Swing. Add a Ragnarok sword if any Djinn are Set. Becomes Odyssey if all four are.
Down Smash: Downward stab. Becomes Quake with Djinn set, causing a ground-based shockwave that's bigger with more Djinn
Up Smash: Stab the Sky. Becomes Gaia if Djinn are set , creating a stream of damaging energy around Isaac that goes skyward.
Grab: Catch or Growth. Bigger range with more Djinn.
Side B: Move. As his AT. Hand is bigger with more Djinn
Up B: Spire. Jumps off a falling stalactite. More Djinn means more spires.
Down B: Set. Returns a Standby Djinn to Set. Last in first out.
B: Summon. Summons a creature to attack, sending all Standby Djinn to Recovery. Recovering Djinn can't be manually Set and will Set themselves after a delay. The summon depends on the number of standby djinn.
0: nothing
1: Venus: the Venus Djinni whirls about in front of Isaac.
2: Ramses: Isaac performs a Rocket Punch using the arm of a giant stone pharaoh.
3: Cybelle: magic seeds are summoned and tossed, sprouting into a column of damaging greenery.
4: Judgement: Isaac conjures the lion-cannon arm of the knight Judgement, and fires a massively damaging projectile.
Final smash: Megiddo.

I have a message from another time...Midgar could be more expensive. It's a lot more complex so it probably cost a lot more to develop. Models for all the summons and all that.
Trick Room would actually be really fun from a pokéball pokémon.
"No copyright law in the universe is going to stop me!" ~ Sonic The Hedgehog, Sonic ColoursTrick Room in Smash? Oof; anyone who mains a speedy character would hate that. On the other hand, imagine a speed-nerfed Meta Knight, particularly if you were playing a suddenly-speedy Ganondorf at the same time.
That said, what determines where you fall on the speed scale? Attack speed? Run speed?
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster.I say reverse all speed variables for a character, instead of just making fast characters slow and vice versa. For example, Jigglypuff now runs fast but she ain't no air fighter.
This doesn't mean walks get faster though, I mean... like, the list of who's fastest top to bottom gets flipped.

No Tails. It's Brawl's roster plus Roy, Doctor Mario, Mewtwo, Isaac, Lyn, and Knuckles.
