Why Nintendo? If they got hired by anyone official (if they did, it wouldn't be Nintendo), then they'd want to distance themselves from this sort of stuff right away. That's something they wouldn't be able to talk about while also not having any threatening legal action involved. If Nintendo shut them down and somehow forced them to be quiet (can they do that?) I doubt they'd be specifically saying there was no legal action instead of staying as quiet as possible. So yeah, my money is now on them being hired by someone.
Or Sakurai started camping outside the window and gave them the stink eye. That wouldn't surprise me either.

I'm not going to be surprised if someone puts a mirror of it up soon.

Is this a Jo Jo reference? The most optimistic outcome is that Nintendo struck a deal with them. They did have good ideas that Nintendo did seem to have their eye on.
And Nintendo's very well-known for how they force people working under them into total secrecy.
"It's liberating, realizing you never need to be competent." — UltimatepheerIt's surprising it lived for as long as it did, and it's not like it won't disappear anytime soon. But as is the way of modders and fangame creators that start to make it big, it's only natural this stuff comes to a close as the people behind it realize they could be doing a lot more productive and lucrative projects. For example, this Project Wavedash. At some point, folks like them had to realize they could be doing something a lot bigger than just a mod.
I fear for them, a little bit, because even with the links down and the website wrapped up, it's not like Nintendo doesn't know what's been going on. Like they worried, it's possible Nintendo might pull the rug from under them in the future if they work on a project too similar to Smash Bros.
Is Nintendo really that well-known for, er, "silencing" people?

I'm pretty sure the concept of Law having limits was a translation error. -WanderlustwarriorWell, Mario is an American Italian, if we want to break out somewhat offensive stereotypes...

I'm talking about people who work under them.
Which I'm hoping some of the PM team is about to do.

"It's liberating, realizing you never need to be competent." — UltimatepheerJust to clarify on this, Super Smash Land doesn't count as a black mark on the Rivals of Aether developer because that was made from the ground up. Right?
Anyways, for the P:M guys, here's hoping their next project takes off (whatever it is.) Never was a fan of their mod buuuuuuut some people really did like that gameplay style, and I have to admit some of the stuff they did do was impressive~.
🏳️⚧️she/her | Vio Rhyse AlberiaAt the very least, I'll make sure their stages live on in 4's stage builder.
EDIT:
Knuckles was real. I'd say 98% ready to roll. Lyn was real. I'd say about 85% ready to roll. Isaac was real. No where near close to complete but real. Skull Kid was concept. Sami was real. Only in model though.
I held back out of respect before.

"It's liberating, realizing you never need to be competent." — UltimatepheerYeeeeah, a lot of us don't believe that for a second.

I seriously hope that's what's going on. As much as I love Smash 4, it does got itself some flaws.

It's suspicious, especially since I believe they were still working on a lot of stuff just recently. But I'm not aware of any sort of legal action in this category that would require them to lie about being shut down, so it's probably mostly true. My guess, unless they were just hired by Sony to make PSASBR2, they had some sort of falling out and decided to end things before it spilled out into the project.
