No, I mean. I get that it's a series of independently-developed bullet hell games starring chibi anime girls or something. But then you see trope pages and it's full of some insane lore and characters and jack and I'm sitting here wondering where it all came from.
Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.It's all a spiraling cacophony of self-besting madness.
ZUN puts out crazy, so the fans get crazier, so ZUN puts out even crazier and it goes on until infinity.
Eventually it will form a madness singularity and we're rolling SAN checks until we all lose and accept the adorable girls and laser death spirals.
There's actually a not-inconsiderable amount of background lore coming from readmes in the games and databooks and mangas overseen by the guy who makes the games.
But there is also a metric assload of popular fanon, let's not ignore that.
They're good games, too. It also dabbles in Fighting games from time to time.
I have a message from another time...Touhou has Music C Ds, Mangas, artbooks with profiles of every characters and more and is even getting a magazine now.
The games themselves have been getting a little heavier on the plot as well. The lore is most of the reason I'm into the series to be honest.
"The lore is most of the reason I'm into the series to be honest", he said as 10 gigantic lasers blocked the dialogue box.
I don't hate it or anything like that, but I still don't get how that series grew so bloody much. ...Actually, I think I have a lot of those games hanging around somewhere on my PC thanks to a couple of friends, but I'm not really in a hurry to look for them. Bullet hell ain't for me.
I still wanna see a Sans vs. a Touhou lady thing...

"Yeah, it's a shame. Here we are in an underground cave with all these lasers, and instead of having a rave we're using it for evil."Yeah, no. That'd be a quick fight.
Touhou characters start at "Can become totally invincible at will for as long as she wants" and GO UP FROM THERE.
One of them controls Nuclear Fusion. The one who controls barriers gets control of life and death as part of the deal.
Touhou is NOT easily beaten.
Besides, I hate undertale. It's not my fault you put something killable in front of me and I kill it. IT HAS STATS, IT EXISTS TO BE STABBED. THAT'S THE WAY VIDEO GAMES WORK.
I remember seeing something perfect for your request, but I can't find it, so have this
◊.
And the characters hate you for just that thought process. :P
I wouldn't say they go up from "can become invincible at will." Reimu's kind of top-tier broken.
As for the crossing of the two series, it's kind of weird because the cosmology is totally different. In Undertale, monsters are physically weaker than humans, and were sealed underground by them . In Touhou, the balance of power is exactly opposite (humans are not at all on top of the food chain), and the barrier was made by monsters so they can keep some humans around to fear and thereby create them.

I have a message from another time...Touhou is actually what got me into Japanese culture because the myths and creatures the girls were based on just fascinated me to the point I'm actually planning to write a fantasy story set in a mainly Japanese setting.
Anyway, on more Smash related things, anybody wants to play a few casual matches?
Sure, Fullmoon, I'd be willing to try a few rounds with you. Maybe in about 10 minutes or so? Trying to beat a level in Hyrule Warriors.
I have a message from another time...

There's a surprising lack of ninjas in Touhou.
Well I guess there's the Ninja Maid but she doesn't qualify for me
