I do wonder why they didn't go with his muscular look. Isn't that one the modern design? It's just weird because they tend to use the newest design for each character in Smash.

I think because his muscular look isn't really representative of his look in FF VII

don't quote me on that though

Cloud was never exactly beefy, but he was slightly bulkier in the art for the initial release of VII. Every appearance he had after that made him more trim- Chalk it up to changing tastes in how Bishounen "should" look.

[up][up][up]Not always. Link and Zelda come immediately to mind.

As for Cloud, I think they were going for as close to his FFVII look as possible. The Buster Sword itself is also missing it's updated look, likely for the same reason.

That's the symbol carving attack right? Between this game and Dissidia Arcade, it seems like that move's become Cloud's non-Omnislash Signature Move.

That, or I just notice it more because it's one of his flashier moves.

Random tip; be careful using Great Aether on Orbital Gate Assault, otherwise you're gonna eat it just as hard as your opponent.

[up][up]I'm glad it retains its stunning effect from the original game, too- Cloud's Limit Breaks are mostly very vanilla, so even just inflicting stun was interesting next to his others.

And yet somehow Cloud is the first sword character whose sword actually shoots out a projectile (excluding Mii Swordfighter) even though Ragnell, the Master Sword, and the Levin Sword can do it too.

Except for the time when Ragnell is just hurled at the opponent, but that's neither here nor there.

Robin at least has the excuse that he already has projectiles for his specials and the only character that has projectiles as his normals is Megaman and that's kinda his gimmick tongue

Kind of hilarious, though.

See, in Awakening, you never swing a Levin Sword. You always raise it up and call down a lighting spell, even in melee range.

He doesn't really have any projectiles, unless you count Monado Purge.

Buster is so long it might as well be a projectile.

And Eater isn't a projectile, but it's a ranged AOE move.

Then again, I don't play with the Master Ball on so I can't get Mew to give me C Ds.

Well Villager can do that too, apparently!

That's more impressive than it is competitively viable.

Especially since 2P wasn't doing anything.

Pac-Mans works better because it immediately follows a shield break. Which actually incapacitates the character.

[up] But it's Mario just like in the Pac-man video and he wasn't moving at all. He didn't do anything to avoid the situation.

You can't tech footstools in this game and jab locks force you to get up in a set way. It's unlikely for Villager to get that set-up done at any point but Pac-Man's is maybe possible since it comes after a shieldbreak.
