Cloud was never exactly beefy, but he was slightly bulkier in the art for the initial release of VII. Every appearance he had after that made him more trim- Chalk it up to changing tastes in how Bishounen "should" look.

Not always. Link and Zelda come immediately to mind.
As for Cloud, I think they were going for as close to his FFVII look as possible. The Buster Sword itself is also missing it's updated look, likely for the same reason.

This song needs more love. That's the symbol carving attack right? Between this game and Dissidia Arcade, it seems like that move's become Cloud's non-Omnislash Signature Move.
That, or I just notice it more because it's one of his flashier moves.

The Yoko Shimomura one? That's still in the game, as an unlockable for Halberd.
Huh, I don't think I unlocked it, then.
Then again, I don't play with the Master Ball on so I can't get Mew to give me C Ds.
AAAAUUUUGGGHHHH!!!!

I do wonder why they didn't go with his muscular look. Isn't that one the modern design? It's just weird because they tend to use the newest design for each character in Smash.
