LISA is basically Rated R EarthBound, Space Funeral definitely has EarthBound as a partial inspiration... There's a lot of deliberately weird/quirky RPGs, both freeware and not, that at least take a page from EB, even if they go way off in their own directions.

I sure said that!![]()
Citizens of Earth. I bought it after watching my brother play Undertale, but since I bought Shin Megami Tensei IV at the same time, it's kind of been on the back burner.
@Moon: I'd play with you, but since I've moved, my net's not been the best and I don't want to run all the data out trying to play online, especially since the rest of the family also uses the net. And I only have the 3DS version.
Oh, speaking of that, I decided to buy all the released DLC stages, but I'm kind of miffed that Ryu's forcibly attached to his stage, making it more expensive. I need to wait a bit before I buy him, since I wasn't planning on doing that until later.

Not sure if this was linked yet, but here's a shot of the Summon Materia on Midgard.
Supposedly it works just by touching it, instead of trying to break it like a Smash Ball.

Roy completely invalidates this argument as his only major appearance was in a game released in 2001, 14 years ago.
Honestly, I think the whole question of "Is Nintendo aiming at kids or adults?" is kind of moot, given their typical MO is "Why not both?" They generally follow a strategy of "create games that are accessible for new players, but have bonus content for long-time fans". And that's true both in terms of content and gameplay.

That's pretty much how I see it. Most Nintendo stuff is appropriate for kids, but fun for anyone.
That said, some of their franchises are more kid-friendly than others. Sure, stuff like Pokemon and Mario are firmly in E-rated territory, but stuff like Fire Emblem and Metriod are more geared towards older audiences. Although to be fair, I played the GBA Fire Emblem games when I was in middle school, so I guess it's flexible.

Heck, even the most recent Pokemon games have some pretty freaky stuff if you dig in a little bit. Like all the Mauville-related stuff in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire.
Reaction Image RepositoryVeteran status doesn't matter when your only major appearance is in a game most kids today haven't played. Acting like veteran status gives you a free pass is moving the goal post. Roy proves kids don't matter when it comes to targeting DLC towards fans, nevermind that actual research has been done on the average age of gamers are anything but pre-teen, including Nintendo gamers
And no, Roy and Lucas absolutely are not "relevant" characters because relevance isn't about merely appearing in a recent game, it's about having importance and neither of them are important to Nintendo.
I've never seen a worse cop-out argument being used than "he's a vet" because that doesn't remotely counter the argument at all.

Yeah, I knew that the average age of gamers fell in the adult range, but I didn't expect it to be that high.
Reaction Image RepositoryTone down the aggro, dude. I'm not copping out on anything. My point is that Smash has an established fandom that goes beyond what gamers, kids or otherwise, might buy SSB 4 as their first game. Roy getting in was because of his veteran status and nostalgia for Melee, no other reason. He was mediocre in Melee as well as his own game. His getting in doesn't constrict or expand the bounds of what characters are likely to be considered for the roster.
Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.Those statistics are... depressing.
Sweet fuckery, we're already washed-up has-beens.

On the bright side, at least Nintendo confirmed that they are willing to further push their I Ps in terms of recognizability via other media. Hopefully, if that goes well, kids can finally be able to properly name Link and Samus when they see them.

Right now it's Undertale, but there's been a lot of them.
