I can't believe y'all are still talking about that fake lol
...
Okay anyway. That was something. When I heard the first few notes of the music and saw the green shiny things floating, I was actually like "where do I know this from... FFVII? Nah, can't be..."
Not sure how excited I am, but hearing the battle themes in the trailer gave me warm fuzzies, so apparently this is the first fighter who can actually invoke serious nostalgia in me.

From what I remember, the stage seems to be a platform overlooking Midgard, with the Shinra building in the background. It seems mostly flat, like Battlefield, and I don't remember seeing any other platforms in the trailer (but they were probably there).
And Cloud's alt is his Advent Children clothes, including using the Fusion Swords instead of the Buster Sword.

Here's a good quality version of the trailer.
From what I can tell, his Limit Break mechanic is apparently a special that lets him charge up a meter and increase the effectiveness of a subsequent special attack when it's fully charged. Including the distance his up-B covers, for instance.

#83126 - Not "yet" on a Nintendo console.
Remember Roy-not-Koopa. His game isn't even out yet when Melee came out.
Hint at an upcoming appearance on a Nintendo console? Port of remake or classic FF 7?

My DA account... I draw stuff sometimes! You know, I don't understand why everyone's so shocked about Cloud being in Smash Bros.
It was leaked a long time ago.

You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Ba-dum-tsssh.
Actual Sakurai account? But the real one has a rep for trolling anyway.

My DA account... I draw stuff sometimes!@Full Moon: From what I've seen, a correctly executed up air x5 into up B from Meta Knight can kill Jigglypuff and Kirby at any percent.
@Cloud: Yeah, looks like his down B charges his Limit Gauge, which powers up his specials and turns his down B into Finishing Touch.
Holy shit, Cloud in Smash!? AWESOME! But WHY!? We better get Final Fantasy VII remake on Nintendo NX, dammit!
"No copyright law in the universe is going to stop me!" ~ Sonic The Hedgehog, Sonic ColoursHilariously enough, I think Cloud's Limits might actually work like that Shulk moveset I wanted so long ago, with a Talent Gauge and a Down B that changed from Battle Soul to Activate Monado when you used it.
So in a way I finally got what I wanted! I think.
🏳️⚧️she/her | Vio Rhyse AlberiaYeah I get that Cloud is guaranteed money. But it's so weird because his game was never on a Nintendo console.
I'm assuming his Limit works like it did in FF 7. The gauge builds as you get hit and then he can unleash a more powerful version of his special attacks. Would make the most sense.
"No copyright law in the universe is going to stop me!" ~ Sonic The Hedgehog, Sonic ColoursCloud has appeared on Nintendo consoles before.
It's sorta like Snake. Snake only has a few appearances on a Nintendo system: Metal Gear, Snake's Revenge, Ghost Babel, Twin Snakes, Brawl, and the 3DS remake of Snake Eater. Ryu is also in a similar boat: Only having SF 2, some spinoffs, and a 3DS version of 4. Pac Man only has ports on the NES, Pac Land, Pac Man World, and that one Game Cube game. (the one with Mario as an announcer)
Sonic and Mega Man have the most relevance to Nintendo.
AAAAUUUUGGGHHHH!!!!But only as a background character, right?
So I notice Shiva is missing from the Midgar stage. Is she too sexy for Smash?
"No copyright law in the universe is going to stop me!" ~ Sonic The Hedgehog, Sonic ColoursHe's been playable (to a certain extent) in Theaterhythm. And before that was a boss and assist character in Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories.
I won't pretend that it's not a technicality, though. Even Snake had more game, and his NES outing(s) were barely like his actual debut game.
I have a message from another time...Cloud's inclusion is very much a technicality, since he has been on Nintendo games before, but not in a way that we as fans would deem significant. Sakurai as both a developer and the guy who created the rules simply needs to check if the conditions are met, and that's not adding the fact that Sakurai is clearly fucking insane.
It's not like Shrek and Goku have suddenly become valid choices. The rules haven't been broken. They're just being pushed as far as they can go.
I'm quite surprised that Cloud even managed to get on Smash Bros. From what I remember, Square abandoned Nintendo for favor of the Playstation after Super Mario RPG. I'm not sure if he did appear in any Nintendo consoles after that but I just thought Nintendo and Square's relationship was still a bit sour. And I have yet to play a Final Fantasy game as well, but I do about Cloud.
It doesn't matter if you want to be useful to someone. There's no such thing as a life worth throwing away!

We finally have a character in Smash Bros. whose debut game never actually got to a Nintendo platform. The ancients have foretold of this event for eons, yet I dismissed the old scriptures for mere fabrication...
Anyway, wheee, Cloud! I can't see the trailer just yet though, so I have to use my imagination currently.
What does the Midgar stage look like, and what's this about an alt costume?
The New Age of Awesome is here! Not even the sky is the limit!
