I don't have much attachment to the Final Fantasy series, so Cloud doesn't excite me beyond "haha they oh wow they actually did it." Pretty cool looking stage, though.
I'm guessing there's not going to be many (if any) new DLC Nintendo characters, considering that third-party icons like Cloud and Ryu are probably an easier sell than either secondary characters from popular Nintendo franchises or protagonists from obscure Nintendo franchises.
Surprised they haven't announced Wolf yet. Maybe he'll be the "this content will be available right after this Direct" announcement for next month's Smash Direct?

Because we really needed a fifth pretty boy swordsman, am I right?
I know that the remaining DLC slots are supposed to be "fanservice", but hell, Cloud is in everything anyway and he's been playable in a whopping 0 games released on Nintendo consoles. Why not take advantage of this opportunity to revive one of your old, unloved franchises that you haven't made a new game in, or even acknowledged, in ALMOST 10 YEARS - maybe with a character that would actually be unique, appeal to people worldwide despite being unloved, and have a moveset that isn't "kick or punch this way/slash in a direction/generic elemental spell that's supposed to be Firaga or Thundaga or Blizzaga or something" and would actually be unique and interesting? But, no, this is Nintendo's Advertising Branch Makes a Fighting Game and the FF 7 remake is out next year. Besides, that old franchise I alluded to back there obviously has no appeal anymore, despite the fact that you pretty much killed it yourselves by surgically extracting the soul that made the franchise so great and replacing it with boring techno shit! And you didn't even let international gamers have the one trace of whimsy that was left because ew cooties!!
If the DLC characters are just going to be ripped straight from the list of GameFAQs character battles, yeah, I think it's time to call it quits...
And we probably won't even get any Super Mario RPG music out of this, either. Where is my goddamn Midas River remix Nintendo.

pearlina brainrot affects millions of people worldwide. if you or a loved one are suffering from pearlina brainrot, call 1-800-GAY-NERDSWow. Cloud looks pretty cool. This is neat.
Call me butter, because I am on a roll! 3ds friend code: 5258-0885-3903 Wii U: Bowser CharizardThanks for posting the trailer since I can at least watch short videos on my phone.
Stage looks boss; the summons were always one of my favorite parts of Final Fantasy.
I have mixed feelings for Cloud. His inclusion doesn't surprise me, and he looks fun at least. Don't know if I'll get him for my 3DS version, but my brothers Will enjoy hearing this news.
Ikeroth, going by the trailer.
I'll admit that is one reason I'm not all that excited about Cloud's inclusion. Smash 4 seems to be setting a precedent of making roster inclusions more in line with typical Japanese games, and that's kind of disappointing, since I play Smash for characters like Yoshi, Duck Hunt, Greninja, etc.
Stuff I'm not going to see anywhere else. Lucas and Mewtwo are kinda different, but Roy, Ryu, and Cloud are bog standard fighting game dudes.

Cloud was leaked years ago guys...

I'm interested by how they're going to implement the Limit Breaks, Cloud's main distinguishing feature as far as combat goes- Blade Beam looks to be his Side Special, Cross Slash his Standard Special, either Climhazard, Braver or both for his Up Special, and of course, Omnislash for his Final Smash. That leaves Meteorain, Finishing Touch and possibly Climhazard or Braver unaccounted for.
... I've played a lot of Dissidia.
His spell animation from the original FFVII appears to be a taunt, but it might be something else.
I sure said that! This makes the first Super Smash Flash Hilarious in Hindsight.
Cloud's not a SSF1 character people are expecting to return in SSF2, so seeing him in the official games has gotten a good laugh out of me.
"It's liberating, realizing you never need to be competent." — UltimatepheerI still need to play Final Fantasy VII, but... oh boy, this really emphasizes that Smash is for all of gaming's greats, doesn't it? also up yours PSASBR
You know, I don't care about "relevancy" or "history with Nintendo" at this point. I am going to play as Cloud and learn him on Rule of Cool alone.
Make him, uhhhhh, make him fight Link. Goodness gracious, of all the ultimate showdowns in Smash this one is up there with Mario and Sonic.
🏳️⚧️she/her | Vio Rhyse Alberiawhy include one of the most well-known and iconic videogame characters in history when you could put in a character for a game that hasn't been remotely relevant for years and most people haven't even heard about. sakurai had a moral imperative to revive that franchise.

No, Sonic makes the first SSF Hilarious in Hindsight for the official Smash series. If you're talking about Smash 4, then Mega Man holds that record. Cloud does hold the record for DLC fighters.
Can we not fight over this?

Duck Hunt?
They generally only do that once a Smash.
'Cause exciting as it is for fans of those games, pretty much everybody else just kind of shrugs and maybe they'll enjoy the character, but it doesn't really have that wow factor to it that, well. Cloud Strife does.

I would be very surprised of crossdressing-Cloud got in as a costume
Anyway, as far as getting Smash attention, Cloud probably will do just that. And now we know there will be more news in December. So that's exciting, any guess how soon Cloud/stage will be availible for DLC? I'm guessing maybe in December after whatever that announcement is
