While she's not the same one(Pikachu is based upon his anime self to a degree, though), the anime clearly is why she was chosen, besides having a body shape that was similar enough to Kirby to create her in Smash 64. It's similar to how Ganondorf got in. Except Jigglypuff's moves fit better as they're more or less canon to a degree(Final Smash and interpretations of moves aside).
Shadow? Before Smash fans call for a character's removal they need to realize that there are plenty of people that enjoy playing the character, for better or for worse.
I'd prefer Lucina would've been just a Marth costume myself, but the fact is she was clone'd and ultimately that's what her role will be going forward if she is back for more games.
Hell, so could the good doctor. At least he could use a new Final Smash.
He's meant to play like Melee Mario, and there were no Final Smashes there, so he doesn't need Doctor Finale to keep his role.

You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Non-Mii DLC costumes would be kinda dumb. It makes sense for the Miis since it's part of their character to represent whatever the player wants, but simply adding Wigglytuff and Raichu don't do anything but please the tiny portion of the fans who want them.

I'd be fine with Dark Pit being a costume just because he may as well be one anyways, but I'm fine with him being his own thing. Mostly because I like Dark Pit as a character.
Doctor Finale, eh... my guess there is they figured the people who wanted Melee Mario back are the ones who don't use items.
I'm sure if Sakurai had more time, he'd have made the clones a little more unique. My only issue with Dr. Mario is the Doctor Finale. There were easily better ideas. But I agree with his logic of padding the roster and adding a vet that fans liked, while not changing his overall base style from Melee.
Dark Pit and Lucina make a lot of sense to me too. I honestly find this roster great, even if I have more specific choices than who actually appeared. But again, they were all pretty logical choices to me. Unique characters, very fun(imo), some pretty neat ideas. And lots of cool vets. That said, I still hope Wolf comes back.
Shadow?Lucina just needs to rep awakening skills and class weapons more. Have her prepare and throw a javelin (or maybe even the Gradivus if project x zone 2 is anything to go by) for her neutral b, Dolphin slash could stay, or be replaced with a lance vault of some kind (though how that would work off stage would be weird), down b for counter seems kinda universal for fire emblem characters save Robin, but maybe make it a quick parry move for comboing to differentiate it, and side b could be many things: her jump slash critical animation (kinda like Shulk's back slash I guess), a charging lance thrust (kinda like quick draw), or maybe her version of Aether where she does a forward thrust into a dashing slash. He normals could use lance thrusts, and wield the falchion with more thrusting attacks than simply the old shield breaker.

I, for one, would welcome various costumes as DLC. I've made a list of my top picks for every character, even, and created some for characters that don't have costumes otherwise except Duck Hunt :|.
On that note, for my personal list the hoodies and Wireframes are swapped. Wireframe Mac is color 8, which means we still get to keep the Wireframe Hoodie colors.

🏳️⚧️she/her | Vio Rhyse AlberiaI dunno about paid DLC, but it'd be neat if each character had an unlockable costume come next game.
Though 8 standard color swaps and 8 alternate costume color swaps would mean 16 total "costumes". I guess that's not an issue since I can't imagine palette swaps take up too much space or are hard to make, but it might be a bit much. It's already kinda silly on Little Mac.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique! On my preferences for playing Pokemon:
- Greninja (Plus he's my main)
- Pikachu/Jigglypuff
- Lucario
- Charazard
- Mewtwo (Partially due to not having any DLC)
I don't usually play with the other pokemon besides Greninja though
On the subject of DLC costumes, chances are I'm not going to bother buying cosmetic DLC unless I've got nothing else to spend it on anyway. But it could be interesting
I don't mind wonkiness in a character (They're my favorites to use) but Lucario just doesn't have the funny cuteness like Pika and Jiggs, the ridiculous explosive strength like Charizard, or the fun competitive stats like Greninja.
I did use him a lot in Brawl, though.

I always thought that Jigglypuff was that same one from the Pokemon anime growing up.
It'd make sense, since that one is actually given some characterization and definitely was memorable.
