Ivysaur was actually my favorite out of the three (though I really liked Charizard as well). If I had to choose one of the other two to come back, it would be her.
But yeah, despite how much I like the Pokemon Trainer, the stamina mechanic blew. Oh sure it was supposed to be truer to the games but I'm sure they could have skipped including that mechanic and no one would have cared.
"I'm glad I don't wear shoes or else I'd have to always get shoes in two different sizes. ...If you know, you know!"The stamina mechanic is the main reason I didn't play Pokemon trainer much. I kinda wish it wasn't there so I could pick the Mon most useful to the situation.
That said, it might have made him unbalanced to use in competitive situations because you have three options to have a good match-up against all the characters in the game and no consequence for never switching out. So I can see why they might have put it in.
My secondaries in Brawl were Luigi, Link, Captain Falcon, Marth, and Wario.
Yeah, Brawl has less people I really use a lot compared to Wii U.
Oh yeah, a good story about Brawl:
I was at an open house this past summer, and they had two Wiis hooked up. One of the games was Brawl. However, the Wii kept giving us the Disc Read Error screen when we tried to do stuff in Brawl. (Apparently, she didn't realize that Brawl can really screw up the Wii if the Wii was produced early enough.) So, we had to play Melee (they also thought that we had to bring the Game Cube for that, I had to tell them that the Wii can play GC games if it has Game Cube ports (which this one did)) . When we played Melee, she didn't have everyone unlocked (only Marth, Roy, and I think Jigglypuff were unlocked). There is also this one girl who didn't figure out how to get the Smash Ball at all.

AAAAUUUUGGGHHHH!!!!Huh, that happened with my old Wii, too. We thought that it being knocked over not long after we got it had finally taken its toll. Had no idea Brawl had anything to do with it.

"I'm glad I don't wear shoes or else I'd have to always get shoes in two different sizes. ...If you know, you know!"There's a good reason for that. Due to the massive amount of data it had compared to other Wii games, Brawl used a dual-layered disk, which was a lot easier to screw up. So we kept getting warned to take extra good care of it and keep our Wii not-dusty.
"It's liberating, realizing you never need to be competent." — UltimatepheerI got my Wii in January 2007 and yet it never had any problems running Brawl. And it's not like I was overprotective of the thing, either.
I don't know. Maybe I'm just lucky.
Call me Willy Whistle 'cause I can't speak, baby. Something in TV Tropes really drove me crazy.I felt the problem with Red was always the fact that you were forced to change Pokemon after you lost a stock. The stamina thing was also a problem, but it at least didn't DIRECTLY force you to switch. You can still choose to stay.
Squirtle was always my personal favorite of the three, but mostly because of its normal moves. Its specials were trash.
There was also the near-invisible Elemental Rock–Paper–Scissors element to him.
Charizard, resisted grass attacks, vulnerable to water. Squirtle, resisted fire, vulnerable to grass. Ivysaur, resisted water, vulnerable to fire.
The obvious problem with implementing something like this? Only Squirtle and Ivysaur had water- and grass-attribute attacks, so this only came into play during Red dittos.
Or, rather, that's how it almost worked out.
Pretty much half the cast DOES have some kind of fire attack. So, through no fault of their own, Ivysaur was pretty screwed against them, while Squirtle had an unnatural advantage.
Obviously, PM fixed this in their incarnation of the three characters the same time they took out Fatigue.

"It's liberating, realizing you never need to be competent." — UltimatepheerMeanwhile, Lucario, a Steel-type Pokemon, takes no extra damage from fire. And imagine if for SSB 4, Mewtwo took extra damage from Dark Pit.
De Romanīs, lingua Latina gloriosa non fuī.No, imagine if none of Mewtwo's, Ness's, and Lucas's attacks could hit Dark Pit.

I don't know about you, but nobody has to worry about ME thinking less of ZeRo's skills, at least.
It's hard to get lower than 0, which was already my stance on him.

I played Red for Charizard most of the time, and loathed being forced to use Squirtle and Ivysaur. They were interesting characters, but good riddance of the gimmick aspect, and Charizard is more popular than they are by a long shot.
