I still suspect that his up-tilt was designed to screw over players who wanted to use his rather excellent up-smash, but couldn't quite manage.

Have you ever landed his Up-Tilt? It's worth the charge.

No it's not because smart people won't get hit by it. It also has the most charge frames of any attack iirc.

The Volcano Kick is basically an even more situational version of Warlock Punch, one of the most situational in the games. The only use I've found for it is making Wheeled Crates' physics go nuts.

I sure said that!

My in-universe reason for why Ganondorf doesn't use swords/tridents/magic/whatever is because the kid who owns the trophies thinks that all bad guys should just have brute strength.

The legend has returned.

I've actually landed his Up-tilt more often than his Warlock Punch.tongue

Can we PLEASE stop saying this, people? It's starting to annoy me.

The opponent screwing up is a possibility.

Mindgames are a thing.

Baiting is a thing.

Using perfect timing is a thing.

I land moves like Volcano Kick A LOT, and my opponents definitely weren't braindead.

Then why does Dedede have his hammer, or Bowser Jr. his Clown Car, or Dark Pit his Silver Bow, or...

'Sides, they've more or less dropped the "kid playing with toys" gimmick by now. It's more a visual motif for the system screens than anything.

I sure said that!

When you have a shit ton of fixed frames that you can't move out of, baiting is kind of hard.

[up][up]I have no problem with it.

What kind of characters do you play as, may I ask?

I don't really have a main, I just dabble. Not exactly the best player, but I know how to avoid highly telegraphed moves.

All I can offer to this totally unique discussion is that "Smart players won't X" carries really bad connotations. Like "you only lost because you're stupid" connotations.

It is one of the most telegraphed moves in the game. It shouldn't be hard to avoid unless you're in a free-for-all with lots of distractions.

My argument is the terminology, not the idea. I couldn't care less about your frame data and stuff.

How to put it...

No human player plays 100% perfectly at all times, but generally, there's circumstances that are easy to read for most and thus can be baited and/or punished when they occur. One of Ganondorf's biggest problems is that his combination of moveset and mobility leaves him with an extremely low margin for error- It's not hard to read an incoming attack from him. As a result, Ganondorf will very rarely be able to dictate the flow of the match, meaning that the way the battle pans out will be mostly left up to his opponent, putting him at a very severe disadvantage.

I sure said that!
MEKristian Since: Nov, 2009
#81620: Oct 17th 2015 at 7:40:35 PM

Then say "unless you make an error" or something rather than "smart players". Because if some professional smasher fell for it one time, that would make him a "stupid player" afterwards.

I don't think it's an unreasonable opinion to ask for a change in the terms.

I don't even know the exact frame data because I'm not a competitive player. I just know it takes a long-ass time to execute.

What are you guys talking about? Volcano Kick is the best move in the game.

Especially when used while on top of a rolling crate.

It is a free for all move, not a 1-vs-1 move. It also has a deceptively large hitbox.

Warlock Punch now is kinda great, with its super armor and reversing shenanigans. And a backhand is a quite Ganondorfesque move if you ask me.

I have a replay saved of me playing Ganondorf, taking out both stocks of my opponent using the Volcano Kick both times.

My opponent wasn't stupid either. I just knew to use it/time it so that it'll almost always hit when they're trying to recover to ledge.
