Crusade is alright (District Court is probably my favorite neutral stage in any game, fan or official; it's my most popular custom remake in 4, for one thing.), but the graphics are just too They Just Didn't Care for my tastes.
At least SSF2 is trying to steadily make things consistent. (Steadily. That's why Wario and Sonic haven't gotten resprites yet. Resprites take a long time.)
Rivals of Aether, to me, just... proves why Sakurai was right about his reason for ditching Dragon King: The Fighting Game. It just doesn't work with unrecognizable characters. Music's good, though; I plugged the music into my Project M build.note

"It's liberating, realizing you never need to be competent." — UltimatepheerI dunno, I'm really liking Rivals of Aether.
It also means that the smash formula isn't sacred, and will allow for more I Ps to develop the formula and enhance it.

Oh, that's right—the ballot is going to end soon.
Has it really been six months already? Geez.
Call me Willy Whistle 'cause I can't speak, baby. Something in TV Tropes really drove me crazy.![]()
While I'm perfectly happy with more platformer-fighter hybrids showing up, I still think Smash is always gonna be the king, if only because, well, look at who we can play as in it.
I'm excited to see where Rivals of Aether goes, because so far, I think it's a lot more solid of a fighting game than Smash ever has been. In general, and I've only played a little so take this with a grain of salt, the characters are made with a more intelligent design. All of the special moves work with each other and revolve around a solid theme, for the most part, and allow more interactions in fights besides your basic "attack, shield, dodge, or grab." I think Sakurai could learn a lot from what it introduces, but ultimately, I definitely prefer Smash 4 over it.
I'm pretty sure the concept of Law having limits was a translation error. -Wanderlustwarrior
x4: I don't know, they feel kind of thrown together to me. Like the bird is a mishmash of Meta Knight, Captain Falcon, and Falco, Orcane is just Super Smash Land's Vaporeon repurposednote ...
And the removal of blocking in favor of "dodge only" feels more than a bit awkward.
Honestly, for fifteen bucks, I feel kind of ripped off.

"It's liberating, realizing you never need to be competent." — UltimatepheerHuh. I hadn't heard of Rivals Of Aether before. It looks pretty cool, except the character names are groanworthy, and it could use more characters.
x3 So it's the d-pad now? No wonder it didn't work.
It probably feels that way because, compared to his Melee/Brawl/PM self, he's practically Sonic.

I suppose I should vote for Shantae in the ballot before it ends...
I played a bit of Flash 2, but Crusade's new build is probably going to click with me more than Flash did.
Granted, Rivals of Aether will probably see more play from me than either of those two.
