I still see people complaining that Sonic's in the game at all...
I mean, come on, people, we're actually not in the Deviantart Age of the Internet anymore. Get over it.

In 2008, it made sense. Shadow and '06 were still recent at the time, and the fanbase who loved those disastersnote was at full force. That's what I mean by the "Deviantart Age".
Nowadays, I think the hatred for him is mostly nostalgia-induced. Not in the "Old Sonic was better" way, but in the "because it's been a decade, hating Sonic is in itself nostalgic" way.

"It's liberating, realizing you never need to be competent." — UltimatepheerI've seen a gaming website where it seemed that everyone there hated every game except the very first one. And it seemed to be just because of the large cast of characters the series had amassed over the years. They even hated Knuckles, Amy, and Tails:
- Among other things, during a "Who do you want to see in Smash" Poll they did during the Brawl era , they reluctantly listed Kunckles for the stated reason that it was just because the community liked him.
- A reviewer once said in a list article that he wanted to kick Amy into a volcano.
- There was even one guy who said he wished that Sega would just go back to the Sega Genesis and make Sonic games only featuring Sonic and Eggman.
I don't know if that site has changed their tune since then, but they definitely sucked back then.

"I'm glad I don't wear shoes or else I'd have to always get shoes in two different sizes. ...If you know, you know!"Speaking of other reps, I'll say it again; The Electronic Gaming Monthly prank saying you could unlock Sonic and Tails in Melee by getting 11 KOs in Cruel Melee was a very large if not the primary reason Sonic made it into Brawl.
For that reason, I really think Tails should be in as well.

Was that site IGN? IGN seems to completely hate Sonic. Among all the other oddities they make during their lists (like in the top 100 animated series list, Full Metal Alchemist was #95).
I'm getting very sick of the Sonic hate that I want it to stop. At least not at this level.

AAAAUUUUGGGHHHH!!!!
That doesn't make this game look particularly fun to me.
The strange thing is, talking about how some hate Sonic more than others has itself become a pastime.
I recall getting thumped in this very site's General Sonic Thread because I dared to point out how pointless that was.

Hot
damn that was some hella play.
I think my personal favorite was hitting the down Substitute on the recovery. Second fave goes to all the legit sneaky Shadow Sneaks.
Does down throw seriously combo into forward air at that percent, or did the Mario just miss an airdodge?
mario is red, i am green, i try my best, but everyone's meanD-Throw leads into F-Air at high percentages (as of the most recent patch) but it can be escaped with DI (away from Greninja), the Mario didn't DI properly so the combo worked.
Even if he had airdodged, in that same video we have a Sheik who airdodged only for Some to stall the F-Air and hit with it anyway

I remember almost crying with happiness when Sonic was announced for Brawl.I was in full blown Sonic fanboy mode during the tail end of the decade and my brothers and friends loved to tease me.
One of my friends said Sonic would never be in a Smash Bros. game because he wasn't cool anymore and that there were better ones they would choose. He said he'd give me five bucks if Sonic got in.
When that trailer dropped, I watched it in stunned silence and then called that friend over.
Motherfucker still owes me five bucks.
You can't get it wrong if it's the truth!Likelihood had nothing to do with, evidently. Kojima approached Sakurai for Snake, Sega approached Sakurai for Sonic, and Capcom expected Sakurai to approach them instead of them approaching Sakurai, hence why Mega Man missed out on Brawl. That changed for Smash 4, obviously.
Pac-Man being present is mostly due to Namco's aid in development.

I sure said that!
No, Pac-Man's in because Shigeru Miyamoto literally begged Sakurai to put him in Brawl — Pac-Man is his favorite video game character of all time and the game that inspired him to even get into the business. He only hesitated there because he couldn't figure out how to implement him right that moment.

"It's liberating, realizing you never need to be competent." — UltimatepheerThat's what we're expected to believe when Sakurai's claimed early on that Namco indeed wouldn't be getting special consideration.
and Sakurai never lies for PR purposes, after all
"Tell them to shut up and have some faith in me." - dead flashback guyNo, Marcus Fenix from Gears Of War needs to be in Smash!
What, did you expect me to say Master Chief?

AAAAUUUUGGGHHHH!!!!

I don't just want more Sonic music, I want more Sonic remixes. For recent games on the Gamecube/Wii U, it's fine since it can translate well with each other. But with chiptune music, it sounds a bit out of place, unless the stage is a literal translation of a retro game like Donkey Kong 25m, or Pac Land, or even the N64 stages. But in other HD stages, having the original chiptune music feels out of place for me.
