Hence the lack of seriousness
Regardless, what Sakurai said is that they couldn't iron out 3DS's thing in time, after which they were out-prioritized altogether. DLC would give them all the flexibility in the world unless other "reasons" suddenly materialize.
"Tell them to shut up and have some faith in me." - dead flashback guyIt was technical limitations concerning framerate, I believe. The 3DS couldn't handle having 8 fighters at once without dipping, and For 3DS already pushes the system. Olimar almost got cut for the same reason, but they were able to get him in by lowering the Pikmin count and reducing the amount of frames they had like the Assist Trophies/Poke Ball Pokemon.
The New 3DS might be able to handle them, but I don't know if they're willing to add something like that only some consumers can use. At least Majora's Mask 3D's better camera isn't a huge deal that warrants upgrading your system.

Come to think of it, they probably won't have Ice Climbers even if the N 3 DS can handle them because of compatibility issues when doing PVP Free-For-Alls with other players using the original 3DS.
I still think Sakurai's stance with Ridley is a quite superfluous one. Guy doesn't scream "gargantuan" when being fought in Metroid games, mostly because those fights being slugfests against a VERY movile opponent is what makes them memorable.
And, on top of that, Melee's intro made it plausible. So yeah, once again his "vision" makes things less enjoyable for the player base.
Have the tail curve around the body so it faces forwards, rather than having it hang limp behind the body.
Seriously, xenomorphs do that all the time.

Because, for the way he words it, he thinks Ridley feels as a giant enemy, not as the fucker who keeps darting back and forth.
Zero Mission Ridley doesn't feel like Ridley either, BECAUSE it is too large and not fast or agile. And SSE Ridley didn't feel like Ridley either.

I'm not alone in wanting Ashley to have been playable, just look on Deviant Art.
Also helps that I'm in a big Wario Ware fan mood and having Ashley as my Avatar.
(I tend to switch between whichever character I think would be cool for SSB. I can switch from wanting anime characters in to wanting fucking Peanuts charactes in.)
AAAAUUUUGGGHHHH!!!!Ashley is one of the few relatively well known first party choices for a small spellcaster that actually uses a wand. That's the appeal, a unique evil small spellcaster. Not one like Zelda who is more of a physical fighter. Rosalina kinda goes there, but isn't actually a spellcaster. She's got the wand, but nothing more.
Shadow?I haven't played the Wario Ware games that much, but Ashley always seemed like a good choice for another Wario rep in my opinion. I was actually surprised when she wasn't playable either.
"I'm glad I don't wear shoes or else I'd have to always get shoes in two different sizes. ...If you know, you know!"I'd rather have Ashley over Waluigi because we still need some more female characters plus she's a darker character so she'd also fit either Anti-Hero (filled with Meta Knight, Dark Pit, and Wario) or villain (filled with only 3 characters: Bowser, Bowser Jr, and Ganondorf). Smash does need some more villains and Anti-Heroes in the roster.
AAAAUUUUGGGHHHH!!!!Ashley doesn't really have a particular niche as a microgame developer outside of what the game's gimmick happens to be, though- At least folks like Mona and Jimmy T. usually have some degree of a role in the series' style of progression: Mona is usually the character repping the first set of real microgames after Wario's tutorials, and Jimmy T. and his family are usually responsible for the remix courses.
I sure said that!By the way, are there any other Konami characters you would like to see in Smash other than Snake? (As unlikely as it might be?) I always wanted to see Bomberman in Smash, and I even got kicked around ideas about how Master Higgins might play: Armed with axes and fireballs as usual, a Up-Special involving a Pterodon, and having a mechanic where his damage gradually rises (in reference to how he must always eat lest he drop dead) but is circumvented by eating food. (His down-special could be pulling a jug of milk out and recovering some damage, but he can only use it but so often, leading to a bit of strategy when it comes to fighting and chugging.)

I see Ashley more fit to a fighting game than Mona or Jimmy T. I even think Kat and Ana fit a fighting game better than those two.
If he counts, Bomberman. Simon Belmont or Alucard can work for me.
I'd also say Leonardo (the Ninja Turtle), but Konami no longer owns the rights to TMNT games.

AAAAUUUUGGGHHHH!!!!Castlevania has been brought up numerous times previously.
"Tell them to shut up and have some faith in me." - dead flashback guyAnd yeah, Simon Belmont or bust as far as non-Snake Konami characters go.

I sure said that!I was tempted to say how Ashley is a minor character at best who really isn't important to her series at all.
But then I remember about how Falco and Rosalina somehow made it in...

Ice Climbers should be on that list I made, actually. Sakarui said he didn't include them because he couldn't get them working on the 3DS and didn't want version exclusive characters, not because he didn't want them. Asking for them is pretty unrealistic, too.
