Infinites (especially zero-to-death ones) are among the worst things a Fighting game can have, unless the victim has a (limited) resource that they can use to break out of it.

[up][up] Amusingly Greninja is one of the few characters that can't be caught in that combo.

I hate jab resets more than infinites. If you get trapped in one, there is literally no escape. You're fucked if you get caught in one in a high percentage, at which point all your opponent needs to do is a Smash attack.

Looking at you Fox.

Your works are one trope short.

That pretty much is an infinite, though.

In other news, Zero wins EVO. Again.

That said, Abadango made it to top 8! So Pac-Mains got something to strive for!

Was kinda disappointed that Nairo didn't get a chance at redemption for CEO, but it was good to see someone different fight Zero.

Okay, I have come up with my own Sliding Scale of Super Smash Bros Character Obscurity.

LEVELS:

  • Level 0- These characters will be known by the general public
  • Level 1- These characters might be known by the general public
  • Level 2- Casual Nintendo fans/gamers will/might know these characters
  • Level 3- Only hardcore Nintendo fans/gamers will know who these characters are.

So, here is what I came up with:

  • Level 0: Mario, Luigi, Peach, Bowser, DK, Wario, Sonic, Pikachu, Pac Man
  • Level 1: Link, Young Link, Zelda, Diddy Kong, Kirby, Charizard, Ryu
  • Level 2: Captain Falcon, Rosalina, Fox, Falco, Marth, Ike, Ganondorf, Toon Link, Mewtwo, Lucario, Greninja, Bowser Jr, King Dedede, Meta Knight, Wolf, Mega Man, Samus/ Zero Suit Samus, Villager, Wii Fit Trainer
  • Level 3: Pit, Palutena, Jigglypuff, Ness, Lucas, Dark Pit, Robin, Lucina, Roy, Koopalings, Olimar/Alph, Dr. Mario, Little Mac, Shulk, Ice Climbers, Snake, ROB, Duck Hunt, Mr. Game and Watch, Pichu

Though I would say that Charizard, Ryu, and Mega Man would be somewhere around levels 1 and 2. How would you guys group your own Sliding Scale of Smash Bros Character Obscurity?

Jigglypuff shouldn't be the lowest tier when it's gotten a ton of exposure via the OG anime.

In general, being a Pokemon should boost Jigglypuff to level 0-1

Melee Top 8 is today, by the way. Interestingly, both Mango and Leffen actually ended up in the losers' bracket this year, meaning the only "kings" on the winners' bracket are Hungrybox, Armada, and PPMD. Axe is in Losers' bracket yet again too, so we might see more Pika hype.

randomness: Except Jigg's kind lost relevance since SSB 64. Only reason why Captain Falcon is a level 2 on my Sliding Scale is because he's so memetic.

You guys can make your own Sliding Scale, I would love to see what you guys think who would be in a level on your own Sliding Scale.

Anybody who was a kid in the late 90's WILL know who Charizard, Mewtwo and Jigglypuff are. Remember, Pokemon is kind of a multimedia franchise, and it did have fad status.

Chances are, more people will recognice those three than Marth, or even Ganondorf.

Kids in the 90s?! Charizard and Mewtwo had their faces plastered all over the advertisements for Pokemox X & Y. Children, period, know who those two are.

Jigglypuff hardly appears anywhere anymore, though.

Even Pikachu's starting to fall out of general public knowledge. He wasn't even in Black/White. Pokémon may still be going strong as a series, but it's nowhere near the all-media titan it used to be.

Actually, Pikachu was the only pre-generation V Pokemon in Black & White. He was some NPC's pet.

Also, only Black/White made it a point to only have Gen V Pokemon available until after beating Team Plasma. The sequel games went back to mixing the generations in encounters (apparently thanks to the aftermath of Black/White) from the start.
