On the other hand, Ryu is the quintessential fighting game character (or at least one of them), and one of the games in his series was very popular in the SNES era. Add in the fact that he can use some of his staple combos to do his attacks, and there's plenty of reasons to have him in Smash (even alongside Snake).
Fantastic Supreme Überkaiser Emperor Folt of The Infinity and Beyond" ... "The First"!I'm just going to be eternally amused how Sakurai made such a big deal about ordinary fighting game characters being discouraged on the basis of originality, then throws in the most ordinary fighting game character possible in a way that prevents those claims from ever meaning anything again.

"Tell them to shut up and have some faith in me." - dead flashback guyRyu and the Tekken costumes are making me hope for some interesting stuff in the future.
I'd really love a Vyse Swordfighter costume.
I sure said that!Pac-Man, the tragic villain of circumstance, finding worlds crumble from his touch.
R.O.B., the hero we all forgot.
Mario, the man caught between all the hardships of both.
This summer, the greatest story never told will finally come to light, and it's all because of

I sure said that!Demonfly: Kinda. I say that because, as I said, the only third party characters in Smash 4 prior to Ryu were cartoony mascots. It would have been more likely that any more third party characters would be a cartoony character. Ryu means that non-cartoony third party characters could be in and not clash with the cartoonish nature of Sm4sh.
AAAAUUUUGGGHHHH!!!!I don't hate to play as anyone but I don't like to fight the Pits as CP Us. They always find a way to kick my ass.
The legend has returned.Holy shit Roy.
If that was for just the neutral b, I wonder what might've happened with the bat.
Ugh, the main CPUs that give me trouble are almost all the FE characters (especially Robin) sans Ike, Sheik, and Dr. Mario, regardless of who I'm playing as. Shulk sometimes too, if only because he always tends to Vision at just the time for me to hit it and I can never bait it like I can sometimes bait the other counter-happy characters.
Incidentally, I stopped fighting level 9 CPU characters unless I'm in a team with somebody. I just don't find them fun to fight and I feel like I'm not going to really "learn" anything from them that I couldn't from a level 8 AI.
...I should really get an amiibo figure one of these days.

Roy's return to Smash (and the upcoming Star Fox Zero game) has given Wolf fans enough reason to believe that he will more than likely come back as well, so no, you aren't the only one.
I used Wolf over Falco in Brawl (I prefer Melee!Falco overall), so I'm hoping that he does return sometime in the future.

Roy is still me favorite of the "new" additions. Ryu is too heavy and Lucas is too light. Roy has just enough style to keep me interested.
Unrelatedly, Majora's Mask is the ONLY trophy I'm missing in the trophy boxes. And I know you get it by finding all the headwear, but that's just do random...

You gotta believe me when I scare you away, all that I wish for is that you would stayI wouldn't mind Wolf coming back or Krystal being playable either.
On disliked characters:
Playing against Mario (or Dr. Mario) CP Us can be a pain for someone who mains characters who use a lot of projectiles (such as Villager, Lucario, Mewtwo, and Pac Man). That #!@*$&!%(#@ cape/sheet...
In general, I really hate playing against Diddy Kong or Mr. Game and Watch CP Us, because I hate being on the receiving end of their Final Smashes.
As for characters I don't like to play as, I don't really like Zelda or Shiek. (I just can't figure Sheik out, and I just really suck at playing with Zelda.) I also found Meta Knight overrated in Brawl and I still don't really like playing with him in 4. Other than that, there aren't very many characters that I can't do reasonably well with.
"I'm glad I don't wear shoes or else I'd have to always get shoes in two different sizes. ...If you know, you know!"When it comes to dislike fighting against; Yoshi, Pikachu, Kirby, the Links, and Shulk can be annoying when my friends use them. Mostly because of spamming.
AAAAUUUUGGGHHHH!!!!@Folt: Roy, Lucina, and Marth all have different gimmicks. Lucina has consistent damage everywhere. Roy hits harder at the hilt of the blade. Marth hits harder at the tip of the blade. They all play differently due to this. Lucina being shorter also eliminates her range, making her different in playstyle. Roy also has a lot less range due to the way he holds his sword.
They really don't play that much alike overall. Being a clone only really just means animations are mostly/entirely the same. Nothing more. Although to be fair, the only two that actually have the same playstyle are Pit and Dark Pit. But that was intentional anyway, as Dark Pit is a literal clone of Pit and is supposed to have the exact same capabilities(bar his Final Smash since he wouldn't make sense to use it).
@Pulse: Roy was brought back due to popularity alone. All veterans have fans. Roy was one of the highest requested. Doesn't matter if it's nostalgia since Sakurai really does care about pleasing the fans... in most cases.(poor Ridley)
Shadow?![]()
What I do is mirror match each amiibo until around level 10, then start having them fight other characters once I feel they're competent enough. If they start spamming, just retrain them until you notice improvement. After that, it's mostly just teaching the amiibo your playstyle.
One thing people have noted though is that amiibo should not fight Rosalina unless it is a Rosalina amiibo. Seems that the Luma causes some issues in them learning to fight properly.

You're basically saying that he adds nothing in terms of representation that Snake wouldn't.
