As noted, it seems like Roy is in that semi-clone territory that a lot of others were back in Brawl. Would probably be nice to seem him diverge a bit in the next installment, but he's at least in a better spot that Lucina. Admittedly I'm being a bit nice because he's my Melee main.

He's basically in the spot where Luigi used to be in Melee, and where Falco, Ganondorf, and Toon Link were in Brawl.

Am I the only one who notices that Ryu's attacks are exceptionally low-knockback compared to other characters?

His attacks have intentional low knockback, probably because his main thing is to have SF-like combos, with finishing moves like Shoryuken.

His combo game is buttery smooth by the way. All of his moves seem to have decent follow-ups.

They don't seem too bad to me. That might be also to balance out his more powerful EX moves.

Having fought precisely one Ryu, yeah, his low general launch power is an asset, not a weakness. All it really means is you gotta get the hang of comboing and knowing when to use Shoryuken.

This is why I'm always a bit miffed when analyses on sites like ssbwiki treat light weight as if it is inherently a weakness, and heavy weight a strength.

That's more or less how the games themselves describe them, though- And to be fair, they're kinda-sorta right, in that lightweight fighters can get launched further at lower % than heavyweights, and since the Smash series is Ring Out only, it makes a degree of sense to describe weight as the defense stat.

High weight also means you get combo'd more easily, leading to higher damage faster and then getting KO'd.

Hey, I said a degree. That's absolutely the big problem with heavyweights, especially larger heavyweights like Bowser.

MFW at all the posts relating to Miiverse:

With how bizarre Miiverse is, I think everyone was expecting an endless barrage of memes and penises. (At least I was, anyway.) It must be very entertaining.

I haven't gotten any of the new characters yet, but I did play a For Fun match online just...well...for fun and one of my opponents was using Ryu. (Neither he or I won, unfortunately.)

I don't think I've really expressed just how floored I am with Ryu myself. After they announced Mewtwo, I expected that if we got any more characters via DLC, they would also be fan favorites from previous Smash iterations with some similarities to characters already on the roster. Lucas and Roy definitely follow that trend. But Ryu... Ryu is a third party character from a series that hasn't had much presence on Nintendo consoles really since the SNES (the only relatively recent releases I can think of being the 3DS port of Super SF 4 and maybe Tatsunoko vs. Capcom). And not only that, but he has a completely unique fighting style that is both true to his source and feels entirely at home in Smash at the same time.

Ryu's knockback is nothing if not simply obnoxious; every other move he has knocks you straight into the air (something that I'm reasonably certain happens far less in the everyday 2D fighter, street or no street), and you have to put up with the extended lag normally reserved for otherwise threatening attacks every single time it does.

Out of curiosity, can Kirby do the classic Ryu input thing, too?

Kirby gets the full suite, apparently- The Standard one, the QCF slightly stronger one, and the HCF red-and-stronger one.

... Man, when is R.O.B. gonna get a stage? He's gotta be feeling left out by now.

He even has the alternate quote when he does it. I got carried away and tried pulling of traditional shoryuken's too playing as him.

I suppose that even if a franchise has a character, that's not necessarily grounds for giving said franchise a stage.

Still, though, Gyromite/Stack-Up is the only franchise with a character but no stage at this point.

I mean, c'mon, you could totally make a stage that used the pillars from Gyromite and had a general aesthetic like the Subspace Bomb Factory, right?

Maybe, but then again, since R.O.B. doesn't have a stage, I'm happy with him having stages that otherwise wouldn't even appear in Classic.

What're you talking about? Circa Smash 4 Wii U, Classic stages have nothing at all to do with who you're fighting.

[up] It's no guarantee that they'll keep Wii U's Classic Mode for the other games. Heck, there will probably be another handheld Smash down the line which certainly won't.

(And, well, Wii U Classic Mode kinda blows.)

You know what I like about them adding Ryu? It means Snake has a chance of returning, if 3rd party DLC with their own stages is a thing.
