I already know this will be a fun read
"Tell them to shut up and have some faith in me." - dead flashback guyNever thought I'd see that used as a reason for bias
It's like the writer didn't want to mention Meta Knight (or, perhaps, SSB 64-Kirby) for whatever reason.

Because no sane individual would use that as a reason for bias?
I honestly have no clue why either side would want to hold this under scrutiny; all the interview is comprised of is Sakurai completely misreading (and/or possibly dodging) his criticisms with the easiest possible tangent to shoo it off with.
Additionally, it's a Kotaku article. Don't.

He created Uprising, and that's clearly good enough.

No, people have made the exact accusations that Sakurai has mentioned. I've read a couple blog posts from people who use Meta Knight's strength in Brawl as if it were undeniable proof of Sakurai's bias.
De Romanīs, lingua Latina gloriosa non fuī.He didn't create countering, and I hate that way more than Stone.
I do believe though that he gave preference to his characters in the Subspace Emissary. He pits Mario against Kirby instead of Link, and Pit is watching them, making them early starters.
But that's my take on it.
You gotta believe me when I scare you away, all that I wish for is that you would stay
I doubt it, though Pit was revived because of Brawl.
If anything, the bias in Subspace shows because Dedede is the main hero, Kirby destroys the gunship, The Halberd plays a key role in the story, Kirby and Dedede revive the cast (barring Sonic, Luigi, and Ness), Meta Knight saves Lucas and Pokemon Trainer from death.
AAAAUUUUGGGHHHH!!!!For the record, Mario and Kirby fought at the very beginning of SSE because that's how it went down in SSB64's intro.
🏳️⚧️she/her | Vio Rhyse AlberiaThough it is a bit odd that Kirby, King Dedede and the Halberd all ended up being as pivotal to the plot as they were. Aside from R.O.B., those are the three most important elements in the plot of the game that weren't part of the Original Generation, and R.O.B. is given so much backstory specific to the setting that he's more or less a new character anyway.

I sure said that!
I still don't get why most of the enemies in Subspace were Original Generation mooks and not, like, 50% Nintendo mooks and 50% OG mooks.
I still remember my friend ranting over my criticism of Subspace, because she was like "They wanted to use ORIGINAL enemies. It wouldn't make sense for Zelda and Metroid enemies to be in levels starring Link and Samus unless they took place in Hyrule or Zebes." (That still shows her lack of Metroid knowledge...because Fusion EASILY rebukes that statement. Plus, she also didn't say that having Bowser's koopa army in the levels starring DK, Diddy, or Mario doesn't make sense.)
AAAAUUUUGGGHHHH!!!!In a crossover of series with dozens of conveniently big airships.
"Tell them to shut up and have some faith in me." - dead flashback guyBowser and the Koopa army are right there, for starters. They could have just as easily used his pirate fleet (that would go on to be reused for Galaxy anyway) if they wanted a relatively random Nintendo-themed flight raid (Certainly would have been a better place to keep that meaningless giant Petey Pirahna trophy).
And if they wanted to keep the story more consistent and not have it Nintendo-themed, then that gunship thing would have really enjoyed some action beyond one single "reward" cutscene.

"Tell them to shut up and have some faith in me." - dead flashback guyThe Halberd has been pretty much my favorite stage from any Kirby game period, so I really liked having it in SSE and having it as a playable stage in Brawl. Just wish it was in 3DS too...
And if you're talking about the base/weapon thing Ganon was using, it made sense to me that it wasn't from an existing Nintendo series. That just highlighted the point that the invasion was being influenced from outside forces.

Yeah, Sakurai doesn't bias when it comes to character strengths. Brawl Meta Knight was probably more unfortunate coincidence than him deliberately making him the most powerful thing on the planet.
Now, character selection (Dark Pit) and prominence (Subspace Emissary) are more debatable.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!

Sakurai calls bullshit on "Sakurai bias", at least in terms of character balance.
I look forward to people weeding through the post and making up things Sakurai never said to disprove it.
