Is that what it's called? I know how to do that (sometimes), I thought you were referring to something else...

I officially have negative knowledge of Smash terminology.

Doesn't really matter if you can wipe the floor with other players, like you did to me.

The in-game term for "teching" is ukemi, by the way.

I just call it rebounding.

I've been using Mewtwo more than anyone else lately. He's great, but the fact that they can now add fighters to the game AFTER it's come out just makes me want more.

[up][up][up]I figured I just got lucky with random customs or characters you're not used to after how the Final Destination match went. So thanks!

[up][up]Do you play the Japanese version or something?

No. That's the term for it in English as well.

Yeah, ukemi has been a fighting game term for quite some time.

And Smashers have a different term for it now? Not at all confusing.

Don't PM me. We don't like being PMed.

I've been hearing it being sad as teching since ever.

I consider teching to be the weird tricks that people made up and I never cared to learn.

Like "wave-dashing" and "L-canceling".

I just use the easy stuff.

I've heard it as teching from tons of fighting games before I followed smash.

It's also a trick that you're at an inherent disadvantage with if you don't learn.

Even Uprising had teching.

I don't mind using fan-terms such as "tilts" or "f-air", but something about the word "teching" massively rubs me the wrong way.

I guess because "tech" is short for "technology" or "technical", which don't make sense as verbs. And there's nothing particularly "technical" about it anyway.

"Technique" is also a valid source, and very much fits with an option that requires precise timing to break one's fall/flight on a surface to avoid further attacks.

"Technique" is rather generic, though. Every action you take in the game is a technique.

I prefer ukemi for it's specificity but will accept tech(ing), if mostly because of the Grandfather Clause.

I sure said that!

Mains are who you use most.

If you use everybody near equally, then I suppose that that's "main".

I count mains as the top three. Your lead should be whoever you'd use competitively.

I mostly use my primary and secondary mains. Tertiary mains are backup or the rare occassion I feel like using them.

Mii Swordfighter and Mii Gunner border on Tertiary, though.

But then they're not "main".

Your tertiaries are like...leftovers. The only times I use my least liked characters are when I'm looking for a little variety, and it's seldom enough to keep me using them.

[up] They're more "characters I like to use...just not as much the others".

Anyone below tertiary I hardly ever use. Palutena was demoted to this group.

Like, erm, wow.

I mostly play R.O.B. and Duck Hunt, around half the time, dabbling in everyone else a bit, mostly with Mr. Game & Watch and least with Pikachu.

I wonder if I'm just a contrarian for using the left-fielders so much.

I sure said that!

[up] I think my beef with Pikachu is that he's way too easy to spam with.

It's a lingering feeling of when my friend would use Pikachu in the first three games he would spam the fuck out of Thunder...

I'm one of those players that does not wanna hear "PIKAAAAA!" throughout the match.

I usually just play as Random, so I give everyone a try, though the character I consider myself best as- and my go-to character for online, singleplayer, and serious matches -is Wario.

I have a pretty solidly defined main but a slew of characters I've tried as secondaries.

  • Robin (too slow)
  • Little Mac (depressing recovery)
  • Mario (bad recovery)
  • Dr.Mario (bad recovery and slow)
  • Rosalina (can't get the hang of Luma)
  • Lucario (attacks are too slow)
  • Palutena (probably the best fit so far)
  • Shulk (attacks are too slow)
  • Pac-Man (not my playstyle)
  • Ness (he's not Lucas)
  • Peach (too tricky)
  • Meta Knight (can't get the hang of him)
  • Kirby (too little range)
  • Ike (slow)
  • Samus (that roll...)
  • Megaman (not my playstyle)
  • Zero Suit Samus (experimenting with)
