There's a lot of other intricacies that make me like Melee's mechanics more than any other game in the series, even PM. Good general kill percentages, extremely fast pace (I wish most of it could come from factors beyond execution though), etc. I won't deny there's elitism that surrounds the fanbase (there most certainly is and it annoys me too) but let's not get carried away here.
Uproar. Hyper Voice. Play Rough. There's more than enough ways for them to make Puff's FS faithful to both the games and the show, and Sakurai refuses to choose any of them.

Brawl had seven years to be more popular with the fanbase. People have tried to make it more popular with the fanbase. The primary reason PM even exists is because it wasn't popular with the fanbase.
And since we're apparently being frank, all of this "elitism" tends to stay consistently confined within its own circle, and it certainly doesn't do well for the other party's image when it continues to put up this show of meaningless superiority far outside of said circle.

Dazzling Gleam would've been a neat nod to how it's a Fairy now, and it theoretically could be used in the same way Puff Up is now- A bi gleam of flashing light the radiates in a circle from Jiggs and pushes everyone away.
It would've been nice if Pikachu's Skull Bash were renamed Slam, too.
I sure said that!![]()

Where, by chance, do you see any of this talk about "all Smash games sans Melee/PM are full of scrubs" or any of that other strawman-ish nonsense? Because I am very eager to bet that it's all too often not anywhere that actively intrudes on people's enjoyment over these entries like, say, Moon's froggy tech videos.
Hell, when's the last time that any smack-talk of Meleetism on here ever been warranted by a post on this thread? Because all I see are the occasional citing of one or two off-site instances while being purposely vague about it to avoid thumps - or just hypocritically shoehorning players of such a game into that stereotype entirely, which is what just happened right here.
It's very reminiscent of all of the Genwunner "counters" that still keep cropping up; just a bunch of people choosing to abruptly poke fun at these imagined village idiots when most of them couldn't care less about stirring shit up these days as long as they can do their own thing. Strange, isn't it?

...That too.

"Tell them to shut up and have some faith in me." - dead flashback guyThe genwunner thing is actually more annoying because, in my experience at least, you're more likely to find someone who'll say they love Pokemon only to turn out to be someone who stopped playing after the first or second generation and will insist that all the new designs are terrible. It's... actually kind of the opposite scenario - genwunners are very common because most of them are just ordinary people who know the franchise as part of their childhood and kept it that way, while Melee fanatics are active hardcore fans... and as such, a much smaller group.
(Or am I mistaken here and there's actually a core group of fans who, like, still actively participate in the fandom and everything but insist that the first generation is the only good one? That seems very unlikely.)
... so yeah, pretty much what you said.

I wonder if I would have loved Mewtwo this much if he WASN'T an extra character.
But he's just so strong and full of attitude that it feels like the game bends over for him. ;p
I especially like his winning animation when he punches his fist out and there's a small freeze frame from the shockwave. So stylish...
You gotta believe me when I scare you away, all that I wish for is that you would stay@Jigglypuff Final Smash: They could have made Moonblast literal and had it be a Spirit Bomb type attack. I could see Jiggs conjuring up a giant ball of energy that looks like a moon and then dropping it on the battlefield.

I know a guy who clearly likes Melee the best and still hates Lucario for allegedly "stealing" Mewtwo's slot in Brawl and still thinks he's a clone, no matter how much I point out.
I haven't seen him in a while, but I hope he's happy that Mewtwo is back in 4.

"I'm glad I don't wear shoes or else I'd have to always get shoes in two different sizes. ...If you know, you know!"Who's a clone, Lucario?
Because it's still obviously Mewtwo.
Speaking of, I found out that Mewtwo is the only Pokemon that doesn't come out of a Pokeball. Even better for his free agency shtick.
You gotta believe me when I scare you away, all that I wish for is that you would staySo I noticed after downloading Mewtwo that there's only one more spot on the character select roster. Ordinarily that would mean one more DLC character but we already know Lucas is coming and we have at least one more on the way because of the Smash poll. I wonder if that means they're going to make another column or something. If so then that means we'd be looking at four more DLC characters beyond the ones we know about.

Jossed. Lucario, last time I checked, doesn't pop out of a Pokéball, he just sorta zooms onto the stage.
I think we're just gonna get a "Next Page" or "DLC Fighters" option for when the characters are announced. They did that back in Brawl with the stages.

Fun Fact involving Replacement Scrappy: The Super Smash Bros YMMV page had all of its examples killed a few months ago because the replacements were too popular, and in many cases it couldn't be proven they were actually "replacements" in the first place (a la the whole Mewtwo and Lucario thing). All that's left is the Palutena's Guidance for Snake Codec Conversations.

"I'm glad I don't wear shoes or else I'd have to always get shoes in two different sizes. ...If you know, you know!"
There is nothing satirical about that.
As of now, I do think that Lucario may have been partly based off of Mewtwo, even if it's obvious that Mewtwo was planned to be in Brawl. I consider this distinct from Lucario being a replacement. Or maybe I'm not fully understanding what people are complaining about.
De Romanīs, lingua Latina gloriosa non fuī.

While I see your point, wavedashing isn't that hard to pull off.
But yeah the elitism of Melee and PM players is very grating, I just do my best to ignore it and play the game I like.
