Apparently, Duck Hunt was one of the first newcomers considered for Smash 4 as well
, suggesting, contrary to somewhat popular belief, that they did not replace the Ice Climbers. It's sort of another Mewtwo-Lucario situation, although Duck Hunt and the Ice Climbers do not even share one move.
If I remember right the only Captain Falcon in Apex's Top 8 was a counterpick from a Sheik player against Rosalina that went horribly wrong. For that matter, the Little Mac was actually a Duck Hunt player, he was actually the one who took aMSa's Greninja out in a very close set.
It's interesting to note that even with Diddy dominating Sm4sh, he still isn't used nearly as much as Fox is in Melee, who has more than double his usage statistics.
Amusingly enough Sheik is used just as much in Melee as in Sm4sh.

I feel uneasy comparing the meta of SSB 4 to a game that has had more than a decade for its meta to develop. I don't know, maybe it's easier to figure out competitive trends these days.
De Romanīs, lingua Latina gloriosa non fuī.I think patches being a thing is actually part of the reason people are so quick to judge. What might be the best now might be able to be countered later, but why bother when the game will change soon anyway.
Not saying that's a bad thing at all. As long as the game becomes as good as it can be after patches are inevitably over it's okay to tweak things. Just not, well, drastically.
I'm kinda predicting Fox or Sonic to become the top tier character post-patch honestly. Nerfs to Diddy and Sheik are probably going to happen and Rosalina might end up getting nerfed again.
Though let's be real, Rosalina's Up-Air should not be killing DK on 30% not even on Halberd.
The thought of a third party character being the best in the game is kinda amusing though.

I'd like a small change to Greninja's Substitute. For a few frames while he's using it, an attack will deflect off of him instead of activating the counter attack, which, believe it or not, leaves him more open than if the opponent didn't use an attack.

Obviously if that was the intention they failed pretty badly at it. Would be nice if it worked this way though. If Substitute was more reliable, Greninja would become a much more threatening opponent because holy crap that move is really strong.

I just like to play with the doll/log until it disappears. Once it's gone, right back to fighting.

Sakurai did indeed choose Wii Fit Trainer specifically because they were someone nobody would expect. Duck Hunt was chosen under a similar premise.
