Well, I don't know about Nintendo's conflict, but there's the whole Un-person-ing of Kojima going on that's causing a ton of controversy.
IIRC, Kojima's son wanted Snake to be in Melee, but the game was too far in development to let that happen.
That didn't stop Sonic from getting in ''Brawl'', though.
AAAAUUUUGGGHHHH!!!!I'm so excited for Mewtwo tomorrow! AAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!!

Look at what we (the fanbase in general) have done to Wii Fit Trainer. We keep trying to bring up sales numbers in order to prove how "deserving" she is of representation, and keep making arguemnts of how "notable" Wii Fit was to the Wii in order to justify her as "iconic". Remember, Sakurai's big reason for putting her in was to throw in someone that no one would expect. We are so caught up by these buzzwords that we're trying to retroactively force them onto what is and has always been a troll pick.
I think the big problem with the "overrepresentation" argument is that everyone has their own perspective of what franchises are important to them and they start to grow a victim complex if they feel their favorite series isn't getting the right attention or if a series they don't care about gets some. I won't name a particular series or fanbase, but going back through it you can see a lot of that going on in this thread alone.
@Watchtower: Has Sakurai ever actually said that that was the reason, though? "Trolling" your customer base doesn't really make any sense - that's also just a reason people retroactively apply to characters they didn't expect.
I reckon that Sakurai went through Nintendo franchises that sold a lot and, sooner or later, figured that WFT would simply be fun to have. Just because of how silly but kind of awesome the concept is.
I doubt it's going to happen, but I'm kinda hoping for some music with Mewtwo, kinda like how Mariokart 8 added in some tires with what was advertised.

Please be the latter. I'm guessing he'll have completely different moves, just like Palutena and the Mii Fighters. That'll be why it took them so long to finish him.

Call me Willy Whistle 'cause I can't speak, baby. Something in TV Tropes really drove me crazy.I hope Mewtwo gets Psystrike as a custom. Or is it the move he uses in his Final Smash?

Which is true, but I don't see why Lucas would either.

So Twice Shy, corporate edition?
