Chrom sucks. Around as much as Roy. He's got no reason to be in at all, especially with Robin already giving Awakening its fair share. At least Lucina provides some extra diversity. If you really need another FE character Lyn, Hector, or Ephraim would be the best options, but none are viable for various reasons.

Mario, Pokémon and Zelda are much bigger franchises than Fire Emblem though and let's not forget that if Chrom was in that would be 3 characters representating just one game from the franchise. At least in Kid Icarus's case Pit and Palutena have presence in more than just one game. Hell, people already complain that the Fire Emblem franchise has enough characters as is.
Well, kind of. There are a total of 6 playable Zelda characters in the overall series(Toon Link obviously replaced Young Link, but the series does treat them as unique characters due to the name alone. They are blatantly the same role though), and 5 FE characters. 7 Mario to date(and this is the only game where they're all in).
Shadow?I don't considering a series not being "big enough" viable for their characters not getting in. I once told a friend of mine that I saw someone saying that Fire Emblem isn't big enough to warrant 4 representatives, and his response was, "Wow, is Wii Fit really that big?"
Oh Wii Fit was huge. Sold more than Metroid, Fire Emblem, Punch Out, and Pikmin ever will. Probably combined. There's no real reason that the series didn't deserve a rep. Nintendogs and Brain Age also deserve reps, but it's probably a lot more difficult coming up with a good moveset for them.
Everyone complains about DK being underrepresented (and it is), but you know what series really needs more? Animal Crossing. Series is probably as big as Zelda for Nintendo, and it only has a single character (though also two stages). I'm half expecting Isabelle to be joining in Smash 5.
When it comes to another DK representative, I think I'd rather have King K. Rool over Dixie. I'm having trouble discerning any other major differences between her and Diddy anyway, aside from her hair. Nothing wrong with another playable villain, anyway.
"I'm glad I don't wear shoes or else I'd have to always get shoes in two different sizes. ...If you know, you know!"I'd like another Metroid representative. Brawl gave us Zero Suit Samus at least, but it's still... Samus, albeit playing completely different.
Since Ridley seems to be a no-no (I wouldn't complain myself), I'd actually like to see a Luminoth warrior for some reason, but it's less likely than Ridley. Still, Metroid isn't a series known for its characters.
No regret shall pass over the threshold! Why would they? It's not like they were that close back then, and they weren't exactly open to all third parties just because one or two got in. At least now Nintendo enjoys Monster Hunter exclusivity, which is a much bigger gift than Mega Man. I wouldn't be shocked if Nintendo's efforts in helping localize MH is what helped tighten their relationship.
Because they were out told it would be an exclusive. Capcom basically went behind their back and broke their trust at that time.
They had every right to be annoyed.
Also, I just remember that Sakurai already posted an article about Mega Man; He never thought of him till before 4 and after Brawl. It's still possible Nintendo's justified annoyance would've affected it, though. That's likely why Snake didn't come back, since Konami and Nintendo are having bad blood right now.
Shadow?Smash is full of childhood video game idols...so letting in Sonic was a good way of celebrating his legacy.
Megaman and Pacman too eventually.
I never got why they let Snake in though. I didn't know who he was and he's hardly kid-friendly.
You gotta believe me when I scare you away, all that I wish for is that you would staySonic defined an entire line of systems, the first real competition Nintendo had in the console space. He was Mario's unofficial archrival, inspiring playground fights and console wars across continents. At one point in time he was probably nearly equal to Mario in popularity.
Mega Man was that robot dude that Capcom milked and milked and milked. Then they rebooted him half a dozen times or so and kept on milking until he could take it no more. Megs has his fanbase and fits into Smash well, but he's not nearly on the same level as Sonic (or Pac-Man for that matter).
Bad blood rumors aside, the official reason is, if I recall, Capcom and Nintendo were waiting for one to approach the other.
Don't PM me. We don't like being PMed.

Sukapon would've been a rideable item?? That's...kinda bizarre.
It seems so surreal that James Bond of all characters was considered for Smash Bros. If he was in, then maybe those weird Miiverse requests wouldn't be so unfounded.
Hello pagetopper.
