Coming up with rivalries, trying to keep apart people who exist in the same canon:
Mario vs Sonic (fated rivalry)
DK vs Little Mac (from Punch-Out!! Wii)
Pit vs Meta Knight (Lightwing v Darkwing)
Fox vs Sheik (Showdown on the Halberd, SSE)
Luigi vs Jigglypuff (eternal second bananas)
Diddy Kong vs Toon Link (annoying little guys)
Palutena vs Rosalina (clash of the Goddesses)
Falco vs Duck Hunt (bird hunt)
Peach vs Charizard (lizard racism)
Link vs Marth (swordfight!)
Pikachu vs Bowser (lightweight electric vs heavyweight fire)
Zelda vs Lucina (Princess fight!)
Ike vs Samus (because Ike must fight armored foes)
Yoshi vs Greninja (battle of the tongues)
Robin vs Dark Pit (born of darkness)
Lucario vs Ness (Fighting v Psychic)
Ganondorf vs Captain Falcon (there can be only one!)
Kirby vs Pac-Man (battle of the big eaters)
Bowser Jr vs King Dedede (wants to take out his dad's copycat)
Wario vs Olimar (battle of the treasure-hunters)
Mr Game and Watch vs Villager (jack-of-all-trades characters)
ZSS vs Megaman (purely upon this webcomic
, she "killed" his crush)
ROB vs Shulk (robot racism)
Wii Fit Trainer vs Dr. Mario (who knows more about health?)
Some are one-sided, some are a stretch (Bowser v Pikachu is the weakest, i think).
Found out yesterday I missed the cutoff for the Mewtwo promo. Boo.
I've been trying to get better at the game, and I'm wondering, is it normal for new players to mix up tilts and smashes and similar? I find that in the fast-paced situations I tend to end up using smashes unintentionally, and that's not getting into what happens when I try to use a down special on a platform you can drop through.
Text I feel is necessary to append to every post.Up tilts are the worst ones unless you have "press up to jump" turned off, because if you put too little lag between pointing up and pressing A, you get a smash, but too much lag, and you'll just jump, and it can become difficult to, especially, chain up-tilts together intentionally.
So i'd recommend that, unless you like to jump with the control stick.
I hate it when I try to tilt the rare occasion I do, and then smash instead. Especially Lucario. That smash is so slow....
Also, why is "up to jump" the default control scheme? It shouldn't be. It's also silly that you have to save a nametag to save control edits. Since I don't always remember to select it.
Oh, and I just FUCKING LOVE IT when I try to fall through a platform and instead just crouch, despite mashing the stick like a ten year old with ADHD. And then I fall through the damned things when trying to down tilt/smash.

Moved handles because meh
I usually stick (heh) to the right analog stick when I want to perform a smash attack. It's not too hard to get used to, honestly.
Though I still can't jump without pushing up on the left analog stick.
Call me Willy Whistle 'cause I can't speak, baby. Something in TV Tropes really drove me crazy.
x4: I assume the reason tap-to-jump is the default setting is because it was Grandfather'd in from the 64 days: since pressing up is the way to jump in most other fighting games, the Smash team decided to make that the default setting even though the game would eventually grow around button-jumping instead.
I had tap jump turned off in Brawl, but that was only because I was too used to it by the time I realized it might be more beneficial to turn it off. I turned it off first thing in Smash 4 and it's been off ever since (apart from when I forget to select my profile).
I still find tilts a pain to use, though, so I also made it so my C-stick is set to attack rather than smash. Still getting used to it (and it's a bummer that inputting a diagonal makes you use a jab/neutral aerial so you can't angle your tilts this way).
Icon by Civvi the Civilian!Trying to drop through platforms only to crouch instead no matter what I do frustrates me to no end as well, especially if I'm playing any of the Challenge Door activities in Smash Run or if an Orne is coming to get me. I usually just give up, jump in place and hold whatever the down button is.
"I'm glad I don't wear shoes or else I'd have to always get shoes in two different sizes. ...If you know, you know!"Speaking of using the C-stick for tilts, does anyone else that does this have problems with the tilts not responding at times? I swear, I've been screwed over a few times online because my character decides to stand there watching instead of attacking when using the stick.
"Yeah, it's a shame. Here we are in an underground cave with all these lasers, and instead of having a rave we're using it for evil."

EVO is always in Las Vegas and APEX is always in the New Jersey urban area, for the record. Whether that helps your situation or not I have no idea.
