I have noticed the dash grab being pathetic.
I try for Nosferatu anyway. Racks up decent damage.
I still want to get a replay recorded where I KO someone with a book.
Moved handles because mehAlright Faw, I see what you're saying now, and I completely agree. But, that brings us back to the original argument (which I admittedly derailed, for which I'm sorry). Why don't you think Bandanna Dee is a good concept? He's got a good amount of supporters, and he's appeared in several games. I don't understand why you're so opposed to him.
Right!
I don't have anything against Bandanna Dee in itself and I can see liking it enough to entertain the idea of having it playable in Smash Bros. That's fine. It's nothing personal! But. I do think making it playable would be a waste because it just doesn't add anything worthwhile.
It's a character from the Kirby series. We already have three. It's a cute puffball. Kirby is a cute puffball. It's a puffball doing cool moves with a melee weapon. Metaknight is a puffball doing cool moves with a melee weapon. ... What else is there? It's a generic enemy made into a recurring character and differentiated with nothing but two additional props. There's just not a lot of personality there. It doesn't even have a mouth! I struggle to think what it could do to express its personality. What would its taunts be? Like... looking at the camera and raising the spear three times...? I don't know.
I can understand being a fan of the Kirby series and liking Bandanna Dee in it, but I cannot see anything it would add for people who haven't already grown attached to it, and the problem is that at this point, any character who gets made means another character that doesn't get made. There are just far, far too many options that would add so much more for everyone - not just Kirby fans.
... I really try to be objective! Like, there's a lot of characters I don't personally care for at all, but I won't argue against them if I can't do so in good faith.
Makes me wonder what reasons I actually have for the characters I want other than a flimsy "I liked them in their home games." As it's true that you could give whatever moves to whatever characters as long as you made them look like something from their home game.
I have a message from another time...That's ultimately the thing with the "But he/she has a spear!": it's a justification, not a reason. People want Bandanna Dee and Krystal in because they like Bandanna Dee and Krystal. Those people are then asked why, and of course "because I like them" isn't good enough, especially if there's a good chance of them being clones. So they go "well they have spears" and craft the whole moveset taking advantage of the fact that, well, they have spears.
(For the record, I actually wouldn't mind Krystal, because she's got dinosaurs on beck and call, and that's gotta be worth something.)

"There is no spoon. ... And that's terrible."
...Maybe shoot for a slightly more important subject than videogames in the future, though.
But what other reason except "I liked their game" would you have?
"They're a badass!" Well, why specifically this badass instead of any other one?
"They're a cool leader type person!" But why this specific cool leader type?
Ultimately, it boils down to "we like the game they were in" and everything else after is justification.
In the end, how much of that matters? People are still going to complain about a "wasted roster slot" as if they were limited.
Moved handles because mehOf course, the gimmicks I want for some characters would either be too complex (Isaac with moves involving Setting and Unleashing Djinn, with certain moves getting stronger or weaker depending on the number set. Also, a Summon move that's entirely different based on the number of set Djinn) or unworkable with the technology (Isa and Kachi tag-team, complete with a leader-swapping move. If Ice Climbers can't work, neither would this probably even more complex setup.)
Though, Isa and Kachi could probably work as costumes for each other, Alph-style.
I have a message from another time...Whatcha think? I might had gone overboard trying to fit as many relics as I can to his moves, but hell, look at Link and Megaman!

Moved handles because mehIt is admittedly always easier to come up with reasons against something rather than for it. I'm mostly working under the general idea of bringing new things to the table, which primarily means new franchises. If Sakurai does his job well, a character from a franchise that hasn't been represented yet will always bring a certain flair of that game with them, if not even a stage and some music. Popularity is also a factor, of course - K.Rool is super-popular and I can't say that the DK series isn't popular enough to deserve more than the two primates, and he does have enough personality. And personality/flavor/stuff is, of course, a big factor, but it's not exactly possible to take the entirety of all videogame characters and quantify their personality so you can pick out the ones with the most/best.
I guess the most important factor is going to be popularity because Nintendo want to be making money on this, but it's closely followed by "what do they bring to the table", which I think would favor new franchises above all, and within those franchises, the character closest to being its representative while offering the most unique ... everything.
For the record, the main character I support is Quote, not because I'm such a huge Cave Story fan (I still never beat it ._.), but because he feels like the most deserving indie character and the game has this really nice cute but somber feel to it. (Shantae is similar, but I don't consider her chances as good because Cave Story is Japanese and has kind of a legendary status and she... not so much.)
(And, you know, slots are limited right now. The roster so far is done, every new character means months of work and they won't keep making them indefinitely, so...)
And there are other characters already with tag team Final Smashes, so I was trying a different idea. And I wanted to give the Alchemy Coin (or any relic) a unique mechanic.
Another tought was having the Troupple King (LONG MAY HIS STEM GROW!) leap across the screen, launching everyone while giving Shovel Knight an Ichor of Boldness which he immidetly consumes.

Moved handles because mehProbably wasted my vote, but Segata Sanshiro has at least one vote now.
I'd rather be surprised by the new character(s) than just pick them myself, but I'd be greatly amused to find an utterly improbable character joining the fight (I'm not a huge fan of Vocaloid, but I'd probably buy a DLC with Hatsune Miku just for a chance to beat people unconscious with a leek, and given she managed to rank first in the Sega All-Star Racing DLC Character poll a few years back I wouldn't be surprised if she scored reasonably well here too)
Look upon my R.O.U.S., ye mighty, and despair!

Robin's throws are generally lackluster. Back throw is decent for killing, but his range is nothing, especially when dash-grabbing.
