I mean, it's good to be excited! You just shouldn't harbor any false hopes.
I do think that they're probably going to collect some of the most popular and/or interesting results and put them on display with some selected write-ups, perhaps for another round of voting. And honestly if my excitement contributed to possibly at least making my favorites show up on there, it would be a moral victory at the very least!
At any rate, this ballot has been just an experiment since day one.
We all knew it wouldn't be conclusive.
But it's hard to resist the hype of the (very slim) possibility of affecting the roster with your opinion.
So you know what? No point arguing over how dumb it is to vote for Goku or how a Nintendo exclusive has a better chance of becoming real. People will vote whatever they want.
EDIT: And yup, people should never get their hopes up too much. Such is life.
OBVIOUS STATEMENT COMPLETE! RE-INITIATING FAN HYPE MODE!

Moved handles because mehWell, Kojima didn't mind possibly seeing Snake in Smash 4, but he realized it wasn't likely
.
Here's a glitch worth checking out.

Ey, at the very least they're not opposed to the idea in principle, and with characters like Shantae, where the owners actively want the character in Smash as opposed to demanding money for it, that would make the third-party aspect something of a non-issue...
... of course, the fact that developers like the owners of Shantae are in a position where they might just pay money to Nintendo for the right to have their character in the game speaks volumes about the position they're in. Nintendo would essentially be doing the indie developers a favor as opposed to vice-versa. There's just not enough in it for them to make it likely, no matter how open they are to the idea in principle.
