I am amused that Japan didn't seem to get the Mother 3 pun behind Lucas's intro quote.
I guess it helps that, if I recall, the Japanese intro quotes aren't puns at all, and just "X shows up!" or the like.
One of them connected Mewtwo's to the Pokemon Movie subtitle though.
They really like K. Rool. Like, I know people mentioned it earlier, but wow.
One guy described Shovel Knight as "some strange character" and another is like "what's a shovel knight?". Whelp.
One guy wants Shantee's game to be released in Japan already. So...someone knows about her?
Don't PM me. We don't like being PMed.Well, I imagine they were using the equivalent of google translate on Lucas's intro, and initially only got the meaning of the idiom (which in fact is "suddenly shows up"). Someone else in that thread appears to have dissected the phrase and made the connection to Lucas's home of the Nowhere Islands.
I have a message from another time...![]()

It could be a Composite Character of Ukulele Pichu and Spiky-eared Pichu.
I really want this to happen some day.

There's one guy who suggests such bizarre characters, that now I actually want to see how they would work in Smash.
Especially And-Kensaku
. A character with a moveset based on Google searches could be glorious.

"I like girls, but now, it's about justice."Because the name is different, mostly.
Of the Melee cuts, Young Link is one of the ones I really don't bemoan the loss of at all since Toon Link is a better replacement. I just wish Toon Link had the Deku Leaf for a Side B and the Ballad of Gales for a Final Smash.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Because fans are dumb and hate something based on aesthetics/art style.
I wished clone(ish) characters in general would have Final Smashes that differenate from their "original counterparts".
Well, least Ganondorf isn't summoning a futuristic racecar to run others over, as hilarious as that would be.

Moved handles because mehGanondorf summoning a racecar would be so bizarre and dumb that it'd kinda be worth it.
Like his up-tilt. It's so hilariously stupid that I'd be disappointed to see it removed for something more practical/in-character.

You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique! What always bothered me about the Link and Toon Link thing was the arbitrary sameness of it. If I remember right, Link has all the standard gear because he's Link, but Toon Link also has all the standard gear because, well, he's Link. So I laugh when people try to request Young Link on the grounds of giving him the masks, because until Sakurai changes his mind it's not going to happen. He's going to get the standard gear, because he's Link.
To be fair, two Links is plenty. And I agree with the decision. Giving Toon Link different specials just for the sake of differentiating him would only serve to make him the "other" Link... which, granted, the "Toon" prefix already does, but no need to exacerbate that.
Back during my time on Smashboards speculating about the upcoming Brawl, I made a popular thread for people to write made-up movesets for characters who can't be in Smash under any circumstances (like non-game characters, real people or original characters), and a couple of years ago I randomly found out that it actually continued in my absence and spawned a bit of a community. Which was... a bit surreal!
But yeah, real-talk: Shovel Knight and Shantae are extremely unlikely. The miracle that would have to happen for them to make it is that, perhaps, they will collect some of the most popular and interesting characters and put them up for another vote, displaying some of the best reasoning and such... and then it could conceivably happen that a lot of Japanese people become interested and throw them a vote, if it's multiple choice, and then maybe, at some point, they'll be like "sure, let's do it".
That's the ideal scenario for those characters and characters like them. Realistically, the best you can hope for is just to raise a bit of awareness amongst Japanese fans and Nintendo themselves.
(Also, it's kinda funny to see how the Japanese fans catch little glimpses of what the Western fans do the same way we keep going "what are the Japanese up to".)
I don't see where you're going with this when he functionally is the "other" Link, all the way up to his origins.

Probably not? I 'unno, TV Tropes probably just isn't the ideal place for that. I mean, I did post that thread on the Smash World Forums back then, so that's an entirely different thing.

What I mean by "other" is an implied "lesser". When you have one The Link who gets all the iconic equipment and everything, and an Other Link, who gets less iconic equipment, you are making an implicit statement about their relative worth. The Other one is necessarily treated as secondary because it's just an offshoot of the supposed definitive version. Which Toon Link absolutely shouldn't be - in fact, Miyamoto himself allegedly said that the quintessential Link is a young boy in his mind because it better conveys the feeling of wonder as you explore the game world.
In my head I call them Link and Realistic Adult Link.
Link probably SHOULD have started in Super Smash Bros as his young self because that's his default state. It wasn't until Twilight Princess that he started out older than like 10.
You gotta believe me when I scare you away, all that I wish for is that you would stay
