We must also remember that Mario 2 wasn't actually a Mario game to begin with. It was turned into one because America refused to have Lost Levels, so Miyamoto turned Doki Doki Panic into a Mario game.

Sure, I can buy that, but by extension we must then assume that any and everything depicted in Mario's dream is perfectly plausible in the "actual" Mario universe, including Peach being a flying BAMF.

I mean yeah but that doesn't really have anything to do with the fictional universe the USA version depicts, does it?
By the way, I'm curious; does your Mario headcanon involve the original Japanese Mario 2?

"We're home, Chewie."@70628: Actually, our Mario 2 began as a Mario-style prototype centered around vertical platforming
before it was developed into Doki Doki Panic.
To be fair to The Lost Levels, it introduced the extended version of the "Princess Rescued" music, which carried over to the Lost Levels medley in Smash Wii U, by far one of my favorite remixes in the game.
The Mario series indeed does have a very loose canon, but it does seem to have a defined beginning with Yoshi's Island. It's sort of like SpongeBob—the show itself has very little continuity, but you know that the episode where he gets his job at the Krusty Krab comes before everything else.

Call me Willy Whistle 'cause I can't speak, baby. Something in TV Tropes really drove me crazy. So on Friday I learned that there would be a little Smash Bros contest at the anime and manga convention I was attending. Spent the whole evening nervous, spent the whole next morning super-nervous, had to wait for an hour until I got my turn, which was the last match of the first round... and because there were more participants than expected, each match for the first few rounds was just a four-way free-for-all, 1-out-of-1.
Since I figured he's better against crowds - at least on Omega stages - I picked Toon Link instead of Yoshi. ... The random stage selection of course promptly picked Great Cave Offensive, which is terrible for T-Link because there's no even terrain for projectiles and his light weight makes him easy to KO off the top, and is also terrible for me because of my ADHD, and sitting at a terrible angle didn't help - and I was right at the top with a Pikachu player who was right there in my face destroying me. So eventually I was just jumping around helplessly and cursing in frustration and got KO'd first despite probably being second-best in that match. ... An employee told me the next day that the little Asian kid playing the Pikachu actually went on to win the tournament, which was a bit of a moral victory at least, but man. This game just doesn't want me to love it the way I wish I could.

...They allowed default Offensive Great Cave in a tournament?
I guess someone forgot to press X.
Well, The Great Cave Offensive and Palutena's Temple were specifically built for 8-Player Smash.
Call me Willy Whistle 'cause I can't speak, baby. Something in TV Tropes really drove me crazy.I don't mind Great Cave Offensive since the danger zones mitigate the main issue of large stages, but Palutena's Temple is just too big for my liking. Temple should really be about the maximum size of a stage before it becomes burdensomely large.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Man, I've been seeing way too many Falcos on For Glory.
All this duck hunting lately has been stressful.
Call me Willy Whistle 'cause I can't speak, baby. Something in TV Tropes really drove me crazy.I've come up with a "tier list" of the well-known-ness/obscurity of the fighters in Smash 4
- Well-known (known amongst the general public): Mario, Luigi, Peach, Bowser, Yoshi, Wario, Donkey Kong, Link, Samus, Kirby, Pikachu, Sonic, Pac Man
- Fairly obscure/fairly well known(associated with the above characters, but not too known. General GAMING public will know these characters): Bowser Jr, Rosalina and Luma, Diddy Kong, Zelda, Sheik, Ganondorf, Meta Knight, Dedede, Charizard, Jigglypuff, Mewtwo, Lucario, Greninja, Zero Suit Samus, Toon Link, Mega Man, Villager, Wii Fit Trainer
- Obscure (not well known, but likely to have another game): Fox, Falco, Marth, Ike, Lucina, Robin, Olimar, Pit, Palutena, Dark Pit
- Really obscure (not likely to appear in anything outside of Smash): Captain Falcon, Ness, Mr. Game and Watch, R.O.B, Little Mac, Shulk (though this is by virtue of his franchise only having one game so far, so could upgrade to "Obscure"), Duck Hunt
What do you guys think of my so-called "Tier list" of obscurity?

AAAAUUUUGGGHHHH!!!!

It's kinda funny that Nintendo's flagship franchise doesn't have much of a canon, while every other franchise (sans Smash, but that's not canon to Nintendo franchises to begin with) has one.
And I think at this point we should apply the MST3K Mantra.
