I doubt it- I think Sakurai has picked up on the whole Gen Wunner thing, and Brawl had it worst. Pikachu and Charizard are basically the mascots of the cute and cool sides of Pokemon at this point, Mewtwo's gained more relevancy thanks to it being the introduction to Mega Evolution, and Jigglypuff is the definitive Lethal Joke Character of Smash at this point. I can't see any other Gen I Pokemon joining via DLC.
I sure said that!inb4 conveniently timed Mega Greninja
"Tell them to shut up and have some faith in me." - dead flashback guyPossible Greninja infinite combo?
◊
And man, the frog is not doing well at Apex, the people from the Greninja boards that went there are being cut down one by one.
I would say since it has a unique playstyle, it should be safe. It's inevitable Mega Evolution will give it a potential new Final Smash.
Unpopular opinion time:
Call Lucina and Dark Pit lazy all you want, but am I the only one who isn't bothered by Dr. Mario's presence? I think his decrease in speed has helped him earn a different play style from Mario: while Mario is the combo-reliable Jack of All Stats, Dr. Mario is the powerful Mighty Glacier who packs a punch until he's knocked off stage (he and Little Mac are really the only characters in the game who can't recover to literally save their lives). It helps that he keeps his own down special, meaning that if you want Mario's old moveset from Melee sans F.L.U.D.D., you have that option. Moreover, given that he's Mario with different clothes, he does have a reason to be a clone, unlike his aforementioned fellow clones and Ganondorf, all of whom could have been unique characters.
I'd actually like to see Dr. Mario in Smash 5.
Call me Willy Whistle 'cause I can't speak, baby. Something in TV Tropes really drove me crazy.- Pitches in by saying imaginary money won't help
You clearly aren't.
Anyway, I'm not quite bothered by what little is to him as much as the fact that he's somehow managed to be the ringleader of the pathetically small group of spinoff titles Sakurai would ever care to acknowledge. The last title he has had to his name was a Wii Ware remake of all things.

"Tell them to shut up and have some faith in me." - dead flashback guyDr. Mario is my favorite clone. He's so strong and direct.
What if every non-clone character had a clone? Donkey Kong could have Funky Kong, Peach could have Daisy, Zelda could have Hilda, Samus could have Dark Samus (instead of her as an Assist Trophy), Link would have Dark Link...
Actually, just give everybody a dark clone. Make it a gimmick of Smash 5.

I brought it up before, almost all of Dr.Mario's changes were suppose to already be there in Melee, they just didn't have the time to do it.

While I like Dark Pit more than normal Pit, and Lucina adds one more female character to the roster, Dr. Mario adds very little on the new side. Even Dark Pit has a few things new to offer! (His side B is similar, but also different. His Final Smash is different than Pit's as well) I'd rather that Sakurai had added Dixie Kong, or Mewtwo, or even Viridi (since Kid Icarus has a lot of representation in the game) over Dr. Mario. At least they could've made Dr. Mario an alt costume for Mario. That said, I do like using Dr. Mario because he keeps Mario's old down-B from 64 and Melee, he just wasn't a character I really wanted back.
Some of the casting choices in the game baffle me. Duck Hunt, Dr. Mario, Villager, and Wii Fit Trainer I'll never understand why they are in the game over Krystal, Dixie Kong, K. Rool, Wolf, Lucas, and Viridi (can you tell by my avatar that Viridi's becoming one of my favorite Nintendo characters?)

AAAAUUUUGGGHHHH!!!!They're in because they aren't popular request.
Also Dr.Mario isn't a costume for the same reason Lucina and Dark Pit, he also has no reason to be.

Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.
I recall hearing about Villager having quite a bit of prior support, actually.
...Outside of how his design is literally a costume?
"Tell them to shut up and have some faith in me." - dead flashback guyA costume that some how causes him to be treated like an entirely different character because reasons.

Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.@randomness4: I know that. I guess having Dr. Mario in Smash 4 wouldn't be as outrageous as having him in Melee, even if he was slower in the latter game, if only because of the novelty of having an "old Mario" and a "new Mario" at the same time.
@powerpuffbats: Here's another unpopular opinion: Duck Hunt is my favorite newcomer in 4. Sure, one can wonder why they made it in the game over K. Rool, Dixie Kong, etc., but they seem to me like characters that should have been in Smash from the very beginning. The main reason why Duck Hunt works so well as an Unexpected Character is because they make so much sense, yet very few people ever considered them. The dog is one of the most iconic Nintendo characters in the NES era, but somehow I haven't seen anyone propose that he should be in Smash so players can beat the crap out of him. And players have wanted to do just that for years, and with Smash 4 they can fulfill that slightly latent dream.
But to each his or her own.

Hey, don't get me wrong, I like using Duck Hunt, I just don't get why they would choose...them over a more popular character, like Dixie Kong, Viridi, etc.
...Now that I'm thinking about it, one of us should make a Self Demonstrating Page for Viridi, but I don't know how to make those things.

He already had a model set up for him through various Brawl mods, for the record.
Though I admittedly don't recall anybody actually going through with it.

Apart from Lucas and Wolf, I can see Squirtle and Ivysaur appearing as DLC characters as well...as at least two of the last characters we'll get since we're already getting a new Pokemon character.
