Personal favorite Smash Games ranking:
- 3DS
-
Wii U(Haven't played it, but even if I did, I like the 3DS version too much to care. Yes, I'm that certain about this decision)
-
- Melee/Brawl (depends on what I want to play, though I haven't played either in years)
- 64 (Still a good game, but I prefer the larger rosters in the newer games. No Peach makes me sad)
My Ranking:
1. 3DS: Only Smash to date where I can truly personalize my game and experience. It also has Smash Run and a much better Classic Mode... and the least bullshit challenges. I also care about way more about the original stages for this version.
2. Wii U: This has more content than the 3DS version, but oh my God: Classic Mode is worse (rectified somewhat by Crazy Orders, but it can't replace it), Events are pretty hit-or-miss to the point where I alternate between wishing they were for the 3DS and being glad that they're not, and most of the Wii U exclusive stuff (like the music and stages) is also pretty hit-or-miss compared to how the 3DS version got a good deal of the good stuff, and while Smash Tour is alright, Smash Run is better by far. 8-Player Smash can be very chaotic which is both a plus and a minus, as I sometimes lose sight of my character and accidentally suicide in an otherwise fun match. The challenges are also very very bullshit compared to Brawl and 3DS. Overall, despite the Wii U version having more content, adding everything it has together ultimately only gives it some advantages over its portable brother in exchange for some disadvantages, and some of the modes can feel like a slog to play sometimes.
3. Brawl: I liked the Subspace Emissary mode, actually. The Events are also not as hit-or-miss as it's predecessor and successor. I liked the Classic Mode in this one better than Melee's, though 3DS's Classic Mode is better. Target Test is worse than Melee's (but due to the way it's set up, no character really feels left out in terms of testing their skill) and the game can feel like a slog to play through sometimes, but it is overall an improvement over the previous two.
4. Melee: Melee has the advantage in having trophies, All-Star Mode, and more characters & stages, but Events which made their debut in this game is very hit-or-miss compared to the games that came after and they are a big deal of the reason as to why I think this game is more of a slog to play compared to the rest, and some of the Target Test stages are kinda garbage compared to 64's. Classic is worse than Brawl's and 3DS's but not as bad as Wii U's Classic Mode and I would probably have liked Adventure Mode better if I could battle Master Hand in it (though I like it better than Classic). I also don't like the physics of this compared to the rest of the games.
5. N64: I liked it's 1P Mode as well as Board the Platforms (and it had the better Small Fry Enemy Team), and I like the physics better than Melee's super-fast ones... but Melee and the rest ultimately trumps this game.

Fantastic Supreme Überkaiser Emperor Folt of The Infinity and Beyond" ... "The First"!I always found Brawl's Event Matches to be exponentially duller than Melee's, which could at the very least be described as memorable (rip forever Trophy Tussle matches).
Then there's 4's, which I've heard basically nothing good about.

"Tell them to shut up and have some faith in me." - dead flashback guy4 did have some horrible events (I have a particular dislike for "Kirby's Crazy Appetite," and it seems a lot of people agree with me on that one), but in general I found them pretty enjoyable.
In particular I liked the "Final FINAL Battle," though that might just have been because Master Hand's theme was blaring in the background and I freaking love that song.

Icon by Civvi the Civilian!Brawl's events are just so much simpler and really less interesting because they don't put much use of gimmicks to change them up from basically being normal matches. They're also very easy in comparison to the other games.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.Trophy Tussle not appearing again is sad, but all I remember of Melee's Event Matches is that, the All-Star Matches (which I think the others did better anyways), the final two Event Matches (Vs. the Hands & Vs. the Villains), and how horribly cruel to beat and how much bullshit most of them became after you got the initial ones down.
Brawl allowed me to choose how cruel I could make it for myself which is good. It also standardized the 1P Event final battles (the normal Final Battle pit you up against the heavyweight villains while the secret Final Battle pit you up against the company mascots) and the Co-Op Event Final Battles (normal Final Battle is an All-Star match vs. the playable antagonists and the secret Final Battle pit you up against the entire playable roster). It also standardized the All-Star ones, and the last Co-Op Event is immensely satisfying to try (and has some parallels to the secret final event in Melee in terms of the music used).
Wii U Events allow you to choose the difficulty like in Brawl, but a good deal of the new Events are as difficult and as bullshit as most of Melee's Events anyway (and in fact, they reminded me exactly of how bullshit Melee's eventually became), especially if you want the reward for fullfilling the requirements. However, once again the last Co-Op Event is immensely satisfying to try and beat.
Fantastic Supreme Überkaiser Emperor Folt of The Infinity and Beyond" ... "The First"!I prefer the Wii U version to the 3DS version mostly due to control options. The circle pad just doesn't cut it. I could care less about classic mode being weird or not, and the Crazy Orders are pretty fun. Never liked Smash Run, too many things just pummeling you at once and the winner is almost always decided with RNG. Smash Tour is far worse though.
I'm the guy who knows how to make games but doesn't. 3DS FC: 2878-9776-7579Experience of the day: Went against another Greninja player who has gotten in second place in a small tournament and did well in pretty much all others.
We were surprisingly even matched. Though my lack of sleep reared it's head and I started playing really sloppy in some matches, resulting in me getting 3 stocked.
I'm a lot more confident about myself now.
At least until your next losing streak, at any rate.

That's gonna take a while due to how defensive Cpu are, especially against eachother.
