Custom moves should have been selectable separately from the ridiculousness that is equipment. Seriously, I'm all for good fun, but "Start battle with X item"? "X seconds of invincibility after eating food"? Are you shitting me?

I don't think I've ever unlocked any equipment. Or much custom moves.

It's pretty hard to not unlock equipment unless you never play the solo game modes.

That is where Classic Mode and Smash Run come in, at least for the 3DS version.

The legend has returned.

Same way you escape any other trapping item/move : mashing the joystick in every direction.

But that's exactly what I did! sad

Well, and mash buttons.

Even with these awkward wings, dyed with images that seem to stay. I'm sure we can fly, on my love! 3DS Friend Code: 2809-9138-8756

Been meaning to ask about that. You escape Crazy Hand's grab and black hole move, normal grabs and that spaceship item by waggling the joystick or mashing buttons?

Waggling the joystick seems to make more sense, although for me it's always a case of "Why not both?"

[up] Have you tried one method without doing the other?

I played single player more in the 3DS version, but it's rare that I play the 1P mode for the series itself. Except the original game's 1P mode.

Also, Iwata pitched in to make sure SSBM was released on time.

Grabs seriously need to be nerfed. They are way too abuseable, and you can't escape them at all.

[up][up][up][up]I know for a fact that it's the joystick for being buried, frozen, or grabbed, but I'm assuming it's the same for the others.

[up][up]It's been posted several times already.

I find that Cpus always escape my grabs if i try more than one hit and THEIR grabs are like glue.

So I don't try to hit them when I'm holding them, i just throw them when i need to

The more damage the opponent has, the longer the grab holds.

Anyway, DID YOU KNOW THAT

During the song "Master Core" (which plays when fighting the identically-named boss in Classic Mode), the instruments will silence after 1 minute and 53 seconds and a series of beeps will play for six seconds before the instruments start playing again. These beeps are Morse Code for "MASTER CORE".

Speaking of high damage grabs. setting everyone's damage to 999% is a super easy way to rack up combos in training mode :p

I continue to maintain that equipment should not have existed. It's just another variable you have to keep track of in an already complex game, and I've never seen anyone actually like their existence. Throwing it in the same pile as custom moves just makes it that much worse.

I have a love-hate relationship with equipment- The stat boosts can make for a good equalizer as a handicap in friendly matches or for evening the odds on harder difficulties in Solo modes, but most of the extra effects are crazy excessive.

I sure said that!

Well, I do like the equipment. It's just for fun. I wouldn't use it in any serious match, and I can understand wanting to only use Custom Moves too. Custom Moves should be allowed for tourneys, but only if you have all the moves on the copy of the game itself. Of course Equipment should be banned. I do like Smooth Lander, but I don't know what kind it is(Speed/Defense/Attack), and if it even gives a stat difference. My idea is that everybody would be able to get 7 in each of them using only Smooth Lander and generics of the others. That would be entirely fair as nobody would get any unique bonuses of any kind.

I found the customization loads of fun and allowed for all kinds of unique builds. It means you can play far more differently than normal. My two Ganondorfs are quite fun. Speed and Normal both are good in their own right. The only thing I may need to change for my Speed version is the Attack booster. Even in a tourney with equipment, I'm sure any healing ones would be banned(and I agree with that). Same with Item ones.

I only really use equipment for the Mii Fighters, pretty much just to make them more like their non-Mii counterparts. Like, I made Wreck It Ralph a tough-but-slow bruiser and Vanellope a speedster (' cause she's a racer, after all).

I like equipment in Smash Run, but outside of that I pretty much ignore customizing. I do like that the game remembers which alt skin you used last so I don't have to keep pushing buttons to use my favorite one though, that was a nice touch.
