[up][up] In TWW, he dual wields swords (scimitars, I think) and is incredibly acrobatic.

Ganondorf does use up most of his magical stuff for the Puppet Zelda and Dark Rider phases of his boss fight in Twilight Princess, but I fail to see how that makes them less legitimate.

Tell me generating a triangular energy field and then exploding it wouldn't be a good move for Ganondorf.

I sure said that!

I figured Puppet Zelda wasn't him using his own powers but rather Zelda's, so that magical triangle thing is more like something she'd do. In fact, I think that's one of her moves in Hyrule Warriors.

I'd disagree- That fight essentially an expanded version of Great King of Evil Ganondorf circa Ocarina of Time.

I'd argue that the triangle energy field makes sense for any of the Triforce bearers, for obvious reasons. It's just that Ganondorf is currently the only one who could use a strong revamp as of now.

Firing energy balls is not exactly something I'd say only Ganondorf can do. Other than that and the triforce field, the only other attack Puppet Zelda has is a sword dive, which come on, anybody could do that if they could levitate.

So I'd still say that it was just Ganondorf using Zelda's power.

Friendly reminder that Zelda has not used any of her specials in the main Zelda games.

She turned into Sheik and I think Spirit Tracks involved possessing Phantoms.

Sheik sure, but she never summoned Phantoms in Spirit Tracks. She just possessed them.

She uses Din's Fire, Farore's Wind and Nayru's Love in Hyrule Warriors.

Or if by "main games" you weren't going to include it. ;p

I mean, it's a pretty clear reference to a thing.

And having random phantoms just hanging around in every level wouldn't make sense to program.

Both of her down specials were used by her canonically and her other specials at the very least were from the Zelda Universe. [nja]

[up][up][up] Which came before Melee, where she was already using them. So that doesn't really matter, if anything it's more like a Canon Immigrant sort of thing, only applied to moves instead of a character (don't know if there's a trope for that or not.)

However, it had a valid basis in the source material- Zelda's at least meant to be fantastically powerful magically, and there were three known spells with Ocarina of Time that could be used in one way or another. The issue isn't whether something is new, but rather if something has a poor basis.

... I know we have this discussion every other week and I know I'm involved in a lot of 'em, but I really love this series and what it represents and it's always sad when something you love isn't living up to its full potential.

Warlock Blade is a step in the right direction.

But the fact that custom moves aren't usable in certain online modes kinda puts a damper on it.

I'd rather just give Ganondorf Dead Man's Volley as a neutral special, and make some of his tilts or smashes at least use a sword in the animation even if the hit properties don't change.

Because Dead Man's Volley can't just be a simple projectile reflect? That's exactly what it is in Project M 3.5.

Limit the ability to rebound it by making it exclusive to proper reflectors and weapon attacks and allow Ganondorf a homecourt advantage by letting him just slap it back quickly and easily after a launch seems like a valid interpretation to me.

by both Brawl and Smash 4, Wario Ware was definitely the more important series starring Wario, with Wario Land now mostly a distant memory
I can see that, but on the other hand, the most recent Smash game included references to Super Adventure Rockman and Pac-Land. The former was disowned by the man behind the series, and the latter is far less important to Pac-Man than Wario Land was to Wario. And with Shake It!'s release and the Game Boy games showing up on Virtual Console, I don't think they're trying to forget it exists or anything.

I also think that Wario Land offered more varied moveset ideas. I'm still disappointed that project M got rid of his Bike, though, since it was a pretty brilliant special move.
Yeah, I think I'd been okay with him being a Composite Character. Keep the biker outfit as the default, keep the bike as a special attack (for a really fun idea, have it switch to his car when playing in the Land outfit), have stages like Wario Ware, Inc. and Gamer.

Sorry if I seem defensive or aggressive. I just really like Wario.

Well Sakurai hates Wario Land and Donkey Kong. That's the way the cookie crumbles. No, I don't know if he does hate either of them.

If there's any fighter he hated, it was probably Pichu. He was made for the express purpose of being laughed at.

I'm personally okay with Ganondorf's current identity in smash, but I would adore a revamp where he wields his sword but has similar stats. Like, his normals would have similar parameters to his current ones, but he'd use his sword for most if not all of them, his neutral b would be the warlock blade or Dead Man's Volley (either the cape or the energy ball), his side b could stay flame choke, his up b can stay dark dive because I can think of a replacement, and his down b could be the Dead Man's Volley (specifically the variant from Oo T) and can be charged and thrown (no preserving a charge though), with enough charge transforming it into the huge tendril sphere or become some from of Ao E ground slam like he does in Oo T, mostly depending on where you'd prefer to put Dead Man's Volley and whether you'd like to keep Warlock Blade.

That'd be my personal preference to represent his magical and dark powers a fair bit, his sword abilities, and still keep some of the fittingly ruthless moves that he's been diverging toward as a shift from Capt. Falcon. Sort of a personal ideal for a final divergence into his own character. Mind, this is all just wishful musing since his current identity is set in this installment of smash, whether you are partial to it or not,

Those aren't really comparable situations because Capcom and Namco got the say on what from Mega Man and Pac-Man got in and what didn't, whereas the design process for Wario was left strictly in-house.

I sure said that!
