It's kinda weird- Her actress doesn't do a bad job but she sounds much older than the 15/18 year old she is in her source game.

I sure said that!

She sounds colder and more serious, too. I was surprised when I bought her game on the VC and found out how nice she was.

I really don't understand that statement. Ganondorf was still Falcon with his excellent mobility dropped for an unnecessary power boost in Brawl and that hasn't changed for Smash 4- He's still basically Falcon, minus most of what makes Falcon a good character, for no reason beyond not alienating the handful of Ganondorf players left from what Brawl did to him.

Thing is, Smash 4 gave Ganondorf even more power which, coupled with the better hitstun, makes him much better than he was in Brawl. He's still low tier, but given how balanced the game is now, you can pick him and win matches with him since it's not so lopsided against him now. Also, he had at least 8 moves in Brawl that isn't the same as Captain Falcon's, and his custom moves are just about all different from the captain's (Warlock Blade and Warlock Thrust owns, as does Flame Chain, Wizard's Dropkick, and the Dark Dive customs).

Other than that, Ganondorf in Smash 4 feels really good to land stuff with, especially if you read the opponent and landed the Warlock Punch or Volcano Kick.

Even by that logic it fails- Why is it so damn important to placate old hands at Ganondorf, but perfectly alright to shout screw-yous to anyone who liked to play Lucas, Wolf or Ice Climbers?

Ice Climbers couldn't function on 3DS, so they were scrapped since they weren't likely getting anything new outside Smash. The Mother series won't get any new games either and Ness is more well-known over here anyways (+ his game actually came out in the West). Also, most people were in agreement that Star Fox didn't really need three characters repping the series and Wolf became the one who got the axe. Meanwhile, Ganondorf is the most recognizable villain from a popular series and the character he cloned his moveset from has one of the coolest movesets in the Smash games. Other than that, Ganondorf at present feels ridiculously powerful and incredibly satisfying to kill people with.

[up] You know, it's pretty hilarious how many of the same people who whined about Star Fox getting 3 characters were perfectly fine with FE getting 3 or 4 despite the latter being less successful franchise overall than the former (Star Fox 64 alone was more successful than most FE games combined). Freaking hypocritical.

Regardless, the point Pulse was making was that she felt that because of Ganondorf's popularity and importance that he should have a unique moveset that she feels is more true to his character.

Lyn sounds... older than I was expecting.

Same clips as Brawl, by the way.

As for Arceus, I vaguely recall a fair amount of backlash towards its dub voice in the movie as well, where they apparently decided to give the role of "god" to what was then a complete no-name at the last minute. Not that any of the voice direction has gotten any better since, as far as I'm aware.

I never whined. I don't want anyone cut period, so no hypocrisy from me for once. As much as Lucina and Rosalina grind my gears, yes, I want them to return in Smash 5, too.

The Vocal Dissonance with Arceus is a lot worse than the one with Greninja, it just doesn't fit at all. At least Greninja's makes him a bit more dorky and cute so it adds a bit more to the character, but Arceus just sounds weird.

Awakening was still on many people's minds, so most were expecting an Awakening rep. Ike coming back blindsided us, and there was in fact some outcry over his return. Still, as it is, Fire Emblem is actually more popular than Star Fox right now so we're fine with 3 (4) FE reps.

Regardless, the point Pulse was making was that she felt that because of Ganondorf's popularity and importance that he should have a unique moveset that she feels is more true to his character.

And he pretty much is, actually. He's ridiculously powerful and uses dark magic. His moves feel brutal and merciless. That is very Ganondorf.

As evidenced by Robin, FE also has more potential for diverse movesets than Star Fox, which really only has Krystal. And Krystal isn't exactly popular. And Lucina is a recent Darkhorse that's easily cloned. Meanwhile, Animal Crossing is currently sitting as Nintendo's third or fourth biggest series and only has one rep. These things aren't assigned perfectly.

And yet Star Fox isn't fine with 3 characters?

Again, the problem isn't that people are fine with 3/ 4 FE reps, it's that many of the same people who were fine with FE getting 3 loudly complained about how 3 for SF wasn't "necessary" (which, by the way, I always felt there was a sense of pretentiousness when terms like these are abused which ends up a lot of the time meaning "My favorite franchise is better and should have more characters than franchise X because I say so")

In other words, people were being hypocritical towards SF when nothing justified that hypocrisy.

Except those three reps ended up being semi-clones when Fire Emblem had three unique characters. What your take on that is whatever your stance on clones and semi-clones are, but I'm just pointing out a huge difference.

SF has 5 games over 18 years and hasn't had a new game in 8 years. Fire Emblem has had 13 games over the last 22 years with Awakening being one of the most successful of the entire franchise. It would make more sense to cut a Star Fox character although I would have preferred if they cut Falco and replaced him with Krystal. My main problem with Star Fox was that the other two characters were semi-clones. FE getting 4 characters is perfectly justified in my opinion. Most other franchises with a comparable number of games have at least 3.

[up][up] Wolf isn't even that similar to Fox, sharing only about 6 moves out of 23. Which really makes the whole "similarity" issue irrelevant and pointless to argue about. Unless you think the few moves he shares is honestly such a big deal.

See, that's the same kind of logic that results in characters like Oni. Sure, he only has three moves that are similar to characters like Ryu and Ken, but he's still a Shotoclone at heart and no amount of different moves will change that. And if you look at the negative reaction people have had to Oni, then, well...

[up]I was mostly referring to Marth, Ike, and Robin.

[up] He also shares several normals with other shotos. A better example would have been Gouken, who actually is indeed pretty cool and I don't see any real problem with him.

[up][up] Wolf isn't like Oni. He's more like Sakura, who while having several moves that are clear riffs off of her root character's moves is definitely a very different character.

Between the three, I've always thought it was Falco who needed to either be replaced by someone else from the series or at least get a totally different movelist.

Though my own opinion on it is that number of characters in the home game should probably have something to do with how many characters a series gets as well: from what I know, Fire Emblem has tons of unique characters. Star Fox, from what I know, has less of them and - debatable - thus needs less characters to be adequately represented.

Gouken isn't even an actual shoto though. The lack of a DP kinda changes the style to something completely different.

Compare to the space animals, which all share a blaster, dash move, an eight-directional recovery move, and a reflector. Change the normals, you still get a space animal in the end. That's what I was trying to get across with the Oni point. Though yeah, Sakura might be a better comparison.

So I just went online in Smash 3DS for the first time since Thanksgiving and apparently there's no Conquest up. For some reason I was expecting it to be an "always available" event.

Does the Wii U version even have Conquest Mode?

Conquest mode always had a last until "this specific date" on it. So that just means its now gone.

K Sonic, I don't want to question your scientific methods here but I would very much like to see the evidence you have of the existence of these "many people" who are guilty of the hypocrisy you are decrying. Because I think what's more likely is that you heard a lot of people saying one thing and a lot of people saying another thing and conflated those people into a singular group of people who said things that displease you, because that's the kind of shortcut the human brain tends to take.

As in Conquest was never meant to be a permanent mode and was only going to be available until they stopped supporting it?

Or are you referring to the fact that each Conquest had specific timeframes and we just don't have one set up right now? Cause I knew that much (which is why I said that I thought that it was going to be a continuous event).

If it's the former, when/where was it said that Conquest Mode would be temporary? I would've thought that Sakurai would mention it on Miiverse if that was the case.
