Seriously, whoever came up with A to attack, B as special, ZL/ZR as Grab and L/R as shield has never used a classic controller/gamepad in his life. Nor has he ever played an SNES game where B was A and Y was B.

Alas the A, B, and Y button issue is still prevalent in that control scheme as well. Why does Nintendo keep insisting on using A for its primary functions? A feels like X and B feels like A, and so forth. Does Nintendo have someone in charge of the control layouts who is blind?
The likes of Super Mario All-Stars, Super Mario World, New Super Mario Bros U, and so forth had it summed up perfectly.

ASAB: All Sponsors Are Bad.RE:Control Scheme: I think the idea of making A Button the "main/interact" button and the B Button the "secondary/cancel" button (while at the same time making the X and Y Buttons into auxiliary buttons) is supposed to make the controller reminiscent of the original NES Controller
◊, since some games (like Kirby Triple Deluxe) have button setups like that as the default. At least Smash allows you to customize your button inputs. I don't have a particular problem with this setup anyway, unless I'm switching between games that have similar playstyles but different button layouts (like going from Triple Deluxe to Shovel Knight or Shantae and the Pirate's Curse), resulting in the classic reaction.

...The obviousness is kinda lost on me.
"Tell them to shut up and have some faith in me." - dead flashback guyTriple Deluxe forgets that its A button is not where it usually is...and gives the other buttons a different usage. One for no touch screen and one that also acts as the select button.
The 3DS is not small enough for controlling Smash.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.I map jump to A, specials to B, standards to Y. The default setup was way too awkward, because having to move your fingers between Y to jump and A to attack is so unnatural. Matthew Taranto had a point: being able to strike B with the joint of your thumb is pretty much perfect, and it makes switching between attack types easier.

You also have the control stick/circle pad for jumping, though.
In fact, half the time I forget Y jumps even exist.
And I don't get it.

"Tell them to shut up and have some faith in me." - dead flashback guyI've never had a problem with the layout because I always rest my thumb in the middle of the face buttons so that way I can quickly hit any of them without having to move my thumb.
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!Smash's control scheme...its never not felt natural.

And I think I'm more or less a Zero Suit Samus mainer.

Ooooooow, do I really have to do this 51 more times to be a "true" Super Smash Bros. player. ;p
I know I have to beat Classic on 7.0 with everybody, but I'm tempted to just hammer it.
You gotta believe me when I scare you away, all that I wish for is that you would stayWow...the one time the Circle pad actually screws me over is the one time I was about to beat a high skilled Diddy Kong player.
As Jigglypuff, with both of us in the 100% damage area...and trying to use Pound, I end up using Rest. That was really stupid.
The Mii's don't count.

I'm doing the Galactic Avenger mission now and holy crap does Ridley have a lot of hit points. Every time I think I've knocked him out he just gets right back up again or flies back onto the stage.
