note On Lucina, is it the COM Lucina or just the character in general? If it's the computer, you're going to have to play less aggressively and/or use more grabs/throws against her, since the AI tends to perfectly Counter you at higher levels. The fact that she doesn't need to space herself to get the most out of her attacks means that the computer can deal with you easier (at least that's how I feel. It's easier for me to KO AI!Marth than it is for me to KO AI!Lucina, but all the Counter characters can be dangerous in the computer's hands).
Ah, dear. Wish my copy of Brawl still worked. Then I could give you tips as someone who mains Marth.
Provided there hasn't been too big of a change, you'll want to play almost like a rushdown character. Lucy should be pretty fast so you want to use that to put the pressure on your enemies (although I've heard they slowed Marth down a bit since Brawl so that'll make it hard). Her ground game is pretty strong but I believe her aerial game to be ever stronger. You'll want to use things like your up smash or the up combo on Sword Dance to launch your enemy into the air where you can seriously hurt them (unless your enemy has an even better aerial game).
Sword Dance is one of you most useful tools so don't be afraid to use it. Tilting down on the last hit will make her do a series of low stabs and is great for quickly wracking up damage, especially as the enemy's damage percentage gets to the point were other moves knock them back too far but you can't really KO them. I believe the third hit in Sword Dance's up combo is a meteor move so that can be helpful if you pull it off in the air or on a recovering opponent.
It would be wise to try and predict what your opponent will do to the best of your abilities. While this is true for all characters, Lucy's Counter can really punish anyone who attacks carelessly. Provided you're using the default version, the counter frames start up as soon as you activate the move but you're vulnerable for about the last half of the animation so watch out for that. You'll want to activated Counter right before an attack hits you. Also, keep in mind that the damage and knockback of your Counter is dependent on the strength and knockback of the move that triggers it. If you're playing with items on and you have good timing, you'll never have to worry about Hammers again thanks to it.
As for her air game, if I recall correctly and it hasn't been changed, Lucy's back air is really good. This is where my memory gets rather spotty but I recall it launching quickly, hitting hard, and having little ending lag. If you can short hop then a good approach would be to dash towards you opponent, turn around, immediately short hop backwards, and hit them with your back air. Her neutral air should be pretty good as well and her up air will help you juggle. Also, while her down air is a meteor move, it actually has a sweet spot to it but I cannot remember where.
You'll want to be very careful about your distance from your opponent. This isn't as big of a deal with Lucy as it is with Marth but you'll want to take advantage of the fact that she has greater range than most other melee fighters. Generally speaking, you'll probably want to be hitting with anywhere from the middle to the tip of her blade.
That just about everything I could remember and I don't know how accurate it is anymore but it'll hopefully help.
EDIT: Oh, you meant fighting her. Well fuck. I just typed out that wall of text for nothing.
Well, if anyone wants tips on playing as Lucina or Marth, there ya go.

Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!Counters do actually make characters invincible for a second, it may not seem like a big deal..,but if you're too close than that will be a thing to take into account.

Red Team dominated that. It was pretty funny at the end how there was one Yellow left and he kind of stood at the far side of the stage for a bit and was like This Is Gonna Suck.

I'm split between whether Dark Link or Mewtwo fits the role better, but I figured to go with Dark Link if I only choose one because of the whole "evil counterpart" thing fighting games do.

Okay, that was mildly painful to read so allow me to let you in on a little secret: English has a gender neutral, third person pronoun. It's the word "they" and its forms. Try using it the next time you don't know the gender of the person you're speaking of.
And to answer your question: No, not at all.

Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!Yeah, the Yoshi is male but there are surely female Yoshis.
Of course, the Smash Yoshi is the Yoshi but Baffle is talking about making their own unique character so yeah.
