No. You can give your access custom equipment to your amiibo to help it gain strength, but that's optional. All the amiibos do is give you an option to have a trainable AI that you can pit against other players. The customization is still there in the Wii U version.

amiibos are extra toys that you can use with Super Smash Bros as a custom fighter that you can bring anywhere.
The game already has its own custom fighters, but you can't level them up or bring them to anyone else's house.
You gotta believe me when I scare you away, all that I wish for is that you would stayMmm, i'm still weary on this.
They tried this figures with Pokemon Rumble and all it did was ruin a game they wanted to make a few dollars on but stopped selling the figures within a week.
Not to mention the broken functionality of not being able to reset the figures so no secondhand figures or just getting a fresh start on your own.

Amiibos aren't required to play. It's like your own A.I that you can play with that gets stronger and stronger. Can't use it online though.
Is this a Jo Jo reference?Yea, they said the same thing about Pokemon Rumble too, that the figures aren't required to play. Yet all the functionality to customize your pokemon in every other version of pokemon rumble was removed and exclusive to the figures.
They've tried and failed at this kind of thing before, example cited. :P
Nintendo's amiibos are able to be used in multiple games, although the Smash-related figures seem to be the odd ones out; so far a few of them (like Link and Mario's I believe) have been said to be able to work with certain other games, but many doubt that every fighter in Smash will have other games to link with.
Again, customization is still available for your fighters. The amiibos are an optional bonus.
Just think of the Pokemon Rumble U figures as an early version of what we're getting now.

Except customizing your amiibo is completely separate from customizing your characters.
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!Nintendo, considering, outside of the "link to game" trait, the amiibos function differently than the Pokemon Rumble U figures.
The point we're making is that the amiibos aren't required for anything as far as Smash is concerned, except for bonus features that don't really do much to change the game's general experience.

Charles Martinet now has his own Vine Account where he makes short videos of him playing with Mario,Wario, and Luigi figures.
I hope Ikue Otani would someday make her own account and plays with a Pikachu plush.
That's a very odd thing to have happen, heh.
I believe I have tied in Climb! before, thank the Smart Bombs for that one.
🏳️⚧️she/her | Vio Rhyse AlberiaI remember Martinet's vine account. I hope he ha sMario run into Homunculus at some point.
The rubber on my Circle Pad came off ages ago. Still perfectly usable but kinda awkward feeling.
Are explosions science? As amusing as those videos are, it seems they make some people think that Martinet is getting a bit senile.
I find them cute though.
Speaking of Smash Run, I think the only time I've lost a Smash Run Run! final battle was when I ended up getting KO'd by an Orne seconds before the "Get Power Ups!" part ended and I somehow lost a ton of Speed boosts.
The other characters were Sonic, Falcon, and Pikachu.
I've lost run a few times...because I didn't have enough speed to pass someone or because I got really low speed when it happened.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.

... I don't trust myself with opening my 3DS.
I'm planning to get the New 3DS anyway, so depending of when it comes out I could just try to make this old one last just enough. I'm also probably going to play Smash on the 3DS a lot less when the Wii U version comes out, except if people who only have the 3DS version want to fight me.
