Now whenever I see The Great Wario's Neutral Air, I can't help but think of the Karnov Balloon
.
Shared content (Such as character roster) and anything exclusive to the 3DS version will probably be fair game a month after its release. Spoileriffic content exclusive to the Wii U version (Such as hidden stages) will be fair game a month after its release, as well.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique! It's quite possible we could get more characters on the Wii U version that are available for the 3DS in some way. If that is the case, any "hidden" ones should wait till a month after the Wii U version. Key term being if.
Besides that, we can assume DLC characters are not spoilers, right? Those are full announcements, not anything different from character trailers.
Shadow? Both games would still have the same roster though, only a tad split-up for the 3DS.

"Yeah, it's a shame. Here we are in an underground cave with all these lasers, and instead of having a rave we're using it for evil."It wouldn't contradict a thing. They will be the same. Overall. Getting any ones introduced on the Wii U on the 3DS automatically makes them the exact same roster.
It means indefinitely zero exclusive playables on one version over the other. Not that DLC or characters introduced on one version first cannot happen. Loopholes aren't contradictions as long as it still follows the philosophy. Which would be the case regardless.
Whether it's likely or not is another story, but not impossible? That'd be playing a semantics game when it still follows the clear intent behind his statement. Both rosters will be the same for both versions. He didn't say when in any way, just that it will be the same overall. It's the same reason why DLC is beyond possible, never mind the hackers found an online shop to get Challengers Approaching notifications. It means the game is clearly designed to accept DLC characters. Presuming he goes that route(which he may or may not, but he prepared it).

Shadow?Indefinitely, yes.
From here.
No spoilers in the starting post, but later ones could be the case, so be warned.
As I said, this doesn't guarantee Character DLC, but it shows he can do it if he wants to and he outright set up the system to allow it. I know that they found Stage arrows similar to the ones shown in the post I linked. DLC stages are highly possible as well.
Shadow?Considering its proximity to various "connecting to a Wii U" messages and instructions, my first thought on that "a challenger approaches" message is that it's a message to signify you dropping into the Wii U's lobby (so to speak) or maybe it's telling you that another 3DS has joined.
I have a message from another time...Well, considering we found icons that are specifically designed to change to another Stage Select or Roster Select screen in the same area, I'm doubting that.
Not impossible, though. But I can't see why he'd forego Character DLC when it's a goldmine of easy sales(not necessarily because the DLC is priced, but people will flock to either version if there's even more characters you can get). Mewtwo and Ridley alone would be exciting.
Shadow?Oh, I'm not discounting the possibility, nor am I saying I don't want it. I totally would.
What I'm arguing is whther that particular "a challenger approaches text" is related to the store-and-DLC portion of the whole thing.
And I'm trying not to expect anything, as that could end poorly.
I have a message from another time...Well, patches are DLC by definition, so it happened already. That, and we got a new mode too recently. XD
Anyway, I totally hope so. Now that more time is available to work on DLC with no deadline issues, the door is open. Including veterans of most characters cut. Only ones I see unlikely are Roy(cause of the name issue and Marth has a clone already, heh), Snake(unless Konami and Nintendo make up, as they aren't exactly friendly lately), and Young Link(besides an alt, there's no transformations gimmick for him anymore to cling onto, so...).

Shadow?
Unless they did a thing where he transformed only long enough to perform an attack, then immediately swapped back.
That said, a gimmick like continually changing models would probably be hell to program and fit on the already mightily-taxed 3DS. As for other Young Link ideas, I'd say he's otherwise out. I mean, Toon Link even has his Fire Arrows.
In other news, Lucario's Glancing Counter is nice. So much less likely that you'll end up killing yourself by using it.
I have a message from another time...
The same cannot be said for Little Mac.
No matter which custom counter you use, using it anywhere near an edge is always a crapshoot.

Agreed. Which is why I don't mind him as an alt anymore. They could simply remodel his bombs and boomerang to look like their past self and nothing more. Otherwise, no differences. It'd be a fun free DLC. Of course, this isn't doable for someone like Pichu, who is not just different sized, but his damage mechanic is pretty much what makes him unique from Pikachu as is. He has small differences otherwise at best.
I'm really not sure why everyone keeps assuming that all hypothetical DLC for this game would be free...
As for Pichu* , in an ideal world he would not necessarily be an alt, but instead a Pikachu color with the cheeks, ear patterns, etc. slightly edited. Same with poor Raichu, although that would probably require a bit more flexibility.

"Tell them to shut up and have some faith in me." - dead flashback guySince Dr. Mario was brought back as is, it's important we don't assume everybody knows about each cut or returning vet. So it makes sense to spoiler any possible character till they're revealed(the only hidden characters revealed entirely are Lucina, Ganondorf, and Ness), DLC or otherwise. Just common courtesy to not assume, really. I don't think anyone's assuming any Character DLC will be free, just hoping for it at best. Likewise, we still have to wait for it to happen as is, if it will be.
Hidden character not revealed, please spoiler it. And yes, Jigglypuff seems a lot better than her Brawl self. More on par with the first two games.

Nobody can ever understand the pain Baffle feels inside. The pain of owning noobs online on Smash Bros and being unable to hear their cries of anguish. Unable to hear their screams of rage as they get K.O'ed time and time again.
He will get those noobs back. Somehooooow.
