You could also just Pivot Grab. That's pretty easy. :I It just doesn't work in every scenario.

[up]I still can't believe Pivot Grabbing is actually in one of the Tips. I thought it was just a glitch/exploit like Wavedashing before.

What exactly is Pivot Grabbing?

Turning around while dashing and grabbing gives your grab a little extra range. Really useful for mixups.

They even expanded it to where you can cancel pivoting into any other action.

Pivot cancel into Short Hop -> Bair in particular is extremely useful. Now it's possible to use Bairs while approaching. Really good for a G-dubs main like myself.

Pivot grabbing is also on the Brawl website, and has been for at least years.

[up][up] Agreed, Pivot-Canceling has changed my approach with so many characters.

...So it is. Huh. I'll just add that to the list of "things I was too young to notice"...

I can't believe I even HAVE a list like that for things this relatively recent...

Sakurai seems to really love the idea of pivots in 2D games, considering it's been his one major change to the Falcon Punch as well as the whole Pivot Grab and Pivot Cancel thing.

I sure said that!

I do like pivot grabbing, but dash attack and roll cancel grabbing is much more functional for me.

Then again, turning around on a dime isn't my strongsuit.

So I was just playing classic as Bowser on 7.5 to unlock the kid (successfully, btw; I've got everyone now) and decided to fight both hands just because.

Master Hand died after a couple attacks, and I was all, "waht?" And then Crazy Hand did some move I'd never seen before and HOLY CRAP WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS THING (then I beat it)

Its because you were on 7.5...in a 5.0 or higher that you fought the Secret boss thing that I know about.

So, Bowser's final smash actually gives him his Brawl moveset back for the duration.

This may be the first Final Smash to arguably weaken the fighter. [lol]

I have a message from another time...

I don't understand the whole pivot grab mechanic but really grabs for me in smash feel pretty counter-intuitive compared to most fighters. I never used them all that much and have trouble dealing with them.

Not 5.0, only higher. I beat 5.0 with just about everybody and Master Core never showed up.

It's only at 5.1 and higher that it does.

How specific, but okay then...that'll certainly be helpful to know for my eventual 1st attempt at Classic mode.

Maybe it's to make up for how Brawl's Classic mode felt a bit sluggish.

Also good...the repetition of doing it over and over 4 the first 10 times won't impact as hard as 40%.

Screwing around in training, and some findings that may or may not be known already:

  • Yoshi and Charizard, when using their Final Smashes, can't seem to cross the KO lines. They can't die.
  • Pac-Man, when using his Final Smash, can actually wrap around, both horizontally and vertically.
