I...guess so. Paper Mario doesn't seem like the kinda series that takes itself that seriously. Less Final Fantasy or Tales Series, more The Bards Tale
Are explosions science?Sticker Star is not even a RPG. It's a pseudo-RPG, but not really.
"I like girls, but now, it's about justice."I haven't played Sticker Star, but Thousand-Year Door and Super Paper Mario (which was less-RPG and more like an action game ala Classic Mario) both had more serious plots on top of their generally hilarious dialogue and lampshades. From what I've heard, Sticker Star dials back the plot significantly, even compared to the first game (both the first game and Sticker Star basically have variants of the "Bowser kidnaps Peach" standard), and that's mostly because Mario is the only one doing anything, whereas the other games gave him partners (often based on other Mario series' enemies). So yeah, if you play Sticker Star first, you'll probably end up being surprised by the other games' storylines.
Gameplay-wise, Sticker Star battle system is also different from the other games (sans Super Paper Mario), and I heard that it's sort of luck-based. My brothers have said that overall, Sticker Star felt like a sort of "beginner's Paper Mario", or an introduction to the series proper. Most of the criticism of the 3DS game seems to stem heavily from They Changed It, Now It Sucks!.

If the primary mechanic of an RPG is the Scrappy Mechanic, that's a problem. It's for that reason that I am not going anywhere near Sticker Star.
What is a fandom? A miserable little pile of flame wars! 3DS FC: 0387-9377-7408 PSN ID: Raven King SageThe main thing it has similar to the earlier Paper Marios is that it's turn-based, and the timing for many attacks isn't entirely different.
Oh, and Peach gets kidnapped. As usual. It fits within the series' style, but is still very different. I enjoyed it too, but not as much as the others. I strangely like them in the exact of their release(as in Paper Mario > The Thousand Year Door > Super > Sticker Star). Before Smash 3DS, I was going to say the same for the Smash series. But I am loving the 3DS version alone~
Shadow?I've played all Paper Marios except TTYD.
I've never really played Melee either, I only played it once or twice at a game place I went to as a kid that had GameCubes.
Guess I just keep missing on the "best" installments of most series, at least according to the fanbase.
Then again, I love Brawl, so it's not that I agree with the fanbase much.

"I like girls, but now, it's about justice."I'm pretty sure Sakurai said the Pokeball Pokemon and Assist Trophies won't be entirely the same between each version.
@Wacky: Best is subjective, to be fair. Some consider Brawl the best one. I say ignore the whole "what's truly the best" and give 'em all a try. See what you prefer instead. All reviews are subjective, and there is no right or wrong when it comes to choosing a game you consider the best. Just tons of opinions.
Shadow?I'm personally against Brawl for moral reasons; I don't appreciate that it was intentionally designed to alienate the fans. But that's just me.

Are explosions science?Again, I seriously doubt Sakurai spent all the Brawl developement time rubbing his hands together and laughing evilly while plotting about ways to screw over the Melee player base.
Perhaps he was just trying to make a game different from Melee.
That's why I'm not fond of Project M. It attempts to turn Brawl into Melee (Down to the damn menus) when it was never meant to be.
"I like girls, but now, it's about justice."Not much point now, of course. P:M's dead. Melee players have gone back to Vanilla Melee, and everyone else has moved on to Smash 4.
It's considered a separate game entirely rather than a "tainted Brawl" by most people.

I know that. I'm not an idiot. It's so vastly different from Brawl, though, that it's considered a separate installment by most fans. I polled Smashboards on it.
Not all of Project M is for that. Many just want the old characters back. That's a major reason for Mewtwo and Roy, and possibly even Pichu now. Also, removing Tripping to make competitions run a little easier is not an actual bad thing. Losing to a random trip is not that fun for some people. While I don't even care myself, I can fully understand that opinion.
Some of the changes are made to balance out all the characters. Not make it strictly more like Melee. It's a poorly phrased "project" if only due to some thinking their own goal is to make it identical to Melee. Which... is definitely not true. Regardless, I want to try it out, as it looks fun.
Shadow?Hmm. I wasn't too fond of P:M trying to be all super serious but it has Big Boss as an alt costume.
Also can I file it under No Export for You for the PAL region? I can't quite emulate it because grey aeras and shit.

Are explosions science? That's exactly the right trope. It was never made for the UK, so...
Also, I think people really misunderstand Project M. It does not play like Melee or Brawl. It has its own metagame and is equivalent to being a completely unique iteration in the series. It is a hack, but a unique one.
That's why it's not listed as a regular Brawl tourney, but its own separate section for Tourneys. There's so far 64, Melee, Brawl, and Project M tourneys. Smash 4 will likely be split into 3DS and Wii U tourneys as well.
Shadow?

Just don't expect a story and consistent move options out of an RPG and you should be fine.
