The problem is that including the arm cannon or gloves or sword variations proved a double-edged sword- On one hand, it means the ninjas get tanto blades and the Western Miis get six-shooter styled arm cannons, but it also means they're less versatile than they could have been.
I really like Brawlers getting the Game of Death track suit, at least.
I sure said that!Using All-Star as a first round for vetting all 50 characters was a terrible idea (took me like 25 minutes to do Mario and Donkey Kong, they both got all the way through on Hard, i'm surprised. They've rather tuned down difficulty on the single-player modes this time), so i switched to 3-minute Smash, despite my hesitation over the fact that certain characters just do better in multi-man battles, i've gotten fairly even results so far (aside from poor Falco where i died midway through. Guess he won't be making it this time...)
So far Link is tops, Falco bottom, out of 11 characters assessed.
It also sucks that I think the biker outfit would've been perfect for my Ryuko swordfighter.
Did some more For Glory, against a Little Mac.
The "stand on a ledge, let him approach, and throw him off" strategy is good. But it's tricky to pull off if you're playing as someone with no projectiles, and Mac decides to spend the match on the other ledge, waiting for you to approach.

I have a message from another time...Can we despoiler Ganondorf here now that a certain Sakurai made mention of him in today's daily pic?

When you wish upon a side of beef, soon will come an end to all your griefDefinitely. He's not on the website either. He's even less of a spoiler than Ness now.
No point. And I don't buy that he's simply acknowledging Ganondorf being a beast in Melee/Brawl at the Home Run Contest.
...The only reason I can see for keeping him spoilered is he's not on the website? Which doesn't make sense since he made it clear who he is. Also, showing his toon variant yesterday is hilarious.

Shadow?“There are a lot things to take into account when deciding [characters]. Does the character have something inherently unique about them? Can that be used to make Smash Bros. interesting? Is the character a representative character [for the source material]? Do they conflict at all with other characters? Was there anything about them that stood out when we began development?”
"Characters from a series that has no future are rarely chosen. Also, fighters that switch models are a different matter.”
“Basically, any character is accepted if I believe it works [in the game]. On the other hand, even if a character is unique, if they overlap with other characters and aren’t unique as a fighter, they are rejected.”

I dunno, you seem to be perfectly fine with Falcondorf.
"Tell them to shut up and have some faith in me." - dead flashback guyGanondorf being a Falcon clone couldn't possibly have saved as many man hours as Lucina or Doc, though- All those unique animations of his took much longer to do than changing a few variables around, even though the end result is still a character based on having high mobility being left with the worst mobility in the game.
I sure said that!Toon Link was revealed as a veteran mere months after E3 2013.
Even without that, the only things that even suggest that are a highly contended Melee interview several years back and a recent interview discussing clones that would make Fox and Falco comparisons look like Peach and Wario comparisons.

"Tell them to shut up and have some faith in me." - dead flashback guyHe wasn't that bad in Melee. Brawl is different.
Also, Lucina, Dark Pit, and Dr. Mario clearly took less time than the 6 Melee clones. Those 6 are equal to 1 character. With how much was done, I'd say the Smash 4 clones are about equal to around 2 Melee-style clones. At best. Dark Pit definitely took almost no time. So while it's true Melee could've had King Dedede instead of the clones, Smash 4 was not that lucky. They could've have added anything but maybe another clone/semi-clone. I think we could've perhaps gotten Lucas back with a few changes to him, though, over the other 3. But I cannot imagine Dr. Mario as a costume. He does not shoot fireballs. He absolutely cannot use the FLUDD. Just... no. The rest work easily, though, with no differences besides no awesome Dark Pit Final Smash. I will outright say I'm quite happy with the clones overall, since none are similar enough for me to want them gone. Or have attributes that I find awesome.
You misread my meaning, then.
The 6 Melee clones were made late into development. Brawl had no clones added late(except maybe one, but note the next sentence too). All of them were updated from other characters or remodeled. Toon Link is a blatant remake of Young Link and still played widely different from Link. Same with Ganondorf in Melee/Brawl.(and obviously now 4 since that isn't even a spoiler)
Smash 4 had 3 clones made late into development. Those are Dark Pit, Lucina, and Dr. Mario. You can tell by their movesets who had more work done. Toon Link got more work done. Even Ganondorf did. They aren't in the clone corner because they weren't made late into Smash 4's development.
I should've worded that better, yeah. Either way, Brawl is unique in that all "clones" were ported or remade from Melee and nobody was made late into development except, as the data files show, possibly Jigglypuff or Wolf. Toon Link clearly is Young Link remade, but he may have been added later to fill the roster. And the only one that could've been a last-minute clone respectively.

First off, Dr. Mario is a costume, down to its very concept. Last I checked, there is literally nothing to indicate that he isn't an AU version of the plumber at best, and that in itself is just Fan Wank. Unless we're going to advocate Hooded Mac with faster running speed for the next game, he'd be perfectly fine as an alt.
And of course T.Link (who, also like Y.Link, was consistently deemed as simply lighter and generally better Link; not sure where "widely different" comes from) and Ganon got more work done; three Smashes worth of development, in fact. So why exactly are they still so easily subjected to frankly accurate "X, only with Y" remarks? Where is the 'work' that was supposedly done on them shown?
In fact, can we even say that they're putting any real effort into non-Luigi/Falco clones when, two whole games later, as you yourself have pointed out, a genuine clone corner exists?

I hate how some outfits are only for certain mii fighters. What if I want a brawler in a nice suit?
