Enough time to see the look on your opponent's face if you manage to pull that off, eh? XD
To quote someone else in that comment section about Smash Run:
- local only
- can’t interact with other players
- sharp difficulty (easy to get swarmed by enemies and they are too strong)
- the actual match after Smash Run is too short
That said, from the rest of the comments, it seems like most think it's a fair score (or a fairer score than they were expecting from IGN) but don't think that listing an entire mode is a real con.
That was just a summary of the text review though, right? "Smash Run" just stands for "the things we criticize about the Smash Run mode as seen below", I think.
Meanwhile, I'm peeved at the game because even when it's just against level 5s I can't seem to be able to win any matches against more than one opponent when items are involved.
I think a big problem for me is how short matches are. Aaand with how much I'm used to playing against single opponents with items off. I'm pretty good at keeping the pressure up on a CPU, comboing and edgeguarding and whatnot, but in a 2-minute match with several players and items on, that just means I dish out some damage so another character's item can get the KO.
... I think later today I'll work up the courage to play against a level 9. I've been avoiding that because I'm afraid of losing to a CPU, because even when they've been improved, it just seems... demeaning somehow. ^^;

@Blueblur Oh, you meant Lucina. For a second there I thought you meant one of the other fictional characters named Lucy (ie, the one in my avatar).
Actually about three of the Mii Fighters I'll make will be Peanuts based, so I definitely won't abbreviate Lucina's name as Lucy to avoid confusion with myself.
EDIT: How is the Smash 4 demo? I've heard that it's not that good from an online friend.
Also, have you guys seen the Brainscratchcomms playthroughs of the first three games (Classic for 64, Adventure for Melee, and Subspace for Brawl) as well as their multiplayer runs of Brawl and 64? And have you guys seen the Super Gaming Bros multiplayer runs of 64, Melee, and Brawl? And their run of Subspace as well?

AAAAUUUUGGGHHHH!!!!@Tarsen: The anticipation is always worse than the reality. It's also not quite as stressful when stuff is just kind of happening all over the place and you have no idea what the hell. It's not exactly fun, either, but it feels less like it was my fault because of how random it seemed. I have bad memories of being highly frustrated by how weird playing against level 9s is, though, because they're just constantly perfect-blocking stuff and attacking with frame-perfect precision and whatnot and you don't get to relax for even a second.

@Faw: Yes, the Smash Run con is supposed to be a shorthand for "read on to find out more". The fact that they listed the whole mode though is still questionable to some people, since they could've just said "Smash Run lacks X" or "is X" instead of doing what they did.
Most peoples' complaints about it are regarding all the limitations it has. You only have 5 characters (Mario, Link, Pikachu, Mega Man, and Villager), one stage (Battlefield and its Omega form), and no way to tweak match options (2 minute Timed Matches, items are always on unless you play Battlefield Omega, where they're turned off). It's supposed to leave you wanting more.
While I'm on the subject of match options, I'll just say that for a long time, I didn't know that Stock matches were the preferred setup by most players. I've always played 3 minute timed matches with my brothers, simply so that none of us have to sit and wait while the match finishes up if we're KO'd early. It basically gives everyone a fair chance to play, although it does come with its own problems.
Does anyone else have a preferred way to play like this?

I usually do five stock against CP Us or humans. Though there are some stages that I won't allow (like New Pork City).
Wait, SONIC'S not in the demo? He's the other third-party character and is more famous than Mega Man (Arguably Pac-Man too). At least they could've put him in the demo over Pikachu (Let's just say that my friend made me hate Pikachu in SSB...fucking down-b)
AAAAUUUUGGGHHHH!!!!The AI in Melee was tough as the frozen lake in the depths of hell. Trying to unlock Ganondorf reduced me to tears. Same thing with Pichu, but to a lesser extent. Especially sucks when you have to fight 200 matches to face Pichu, since the event matches were so brutal. The difficulty is why I consider Brawl's event matches to be superior.
"What's out there? What's waiting for me?"
Same here regarding Wii Fit at least. It would've evened out the roster with six characters too.

For all the griping I keep hearing about Melee and unlockables, I don't think I ever had trouble unlocking anything. I think we unlocked all the characters the first day we had the game (Christmas Day).
Speaking of event matches, my most memorable moment was beating the event that pits you against Ganondorf, Mewtwo, and Giga Bowser. While using Jigglypuff. Before that, I had tried to beat the match with every single one of my mains and other characters that I was pretty good with, so it kind of came as a hilarious shock to me.
Bonus points for finishing the match by somehow managing to Rest KO both Giga and Ganon at the same time. Since then, Jigglypuff became a Memetic Badass around the house.

i have not been able to get two of the N64 stages and Final Destination in Melee.
Heck, I'm surprised that I was able to unlock the N64 Kongo Jungle stage. (I spammed Dk's down b in 15 minute Melee)
Out of curiosity, have you guys played through Subspace Emissary more than once? I haven't been able to because my first copy of Brawl started getting Disc Read Errors (hate those things), and I'm afraid that my second copy will do the same whenever I try to play a stage that has either Fire Emblem or MOTHER characters. Plus, my first Wii completely crapped out on me about three years ago. I had to buy a second one (my parents refused to let me ship it in to Nintendo themselves) and had to unlock all characters again (this time I simply did Stamina with Flower and my opponent had 1 HP)

AAAAUUUUGGGHHHH!!!!WELP. I just tried the level 9 duel.
Pikachu vs. Pikachu came down to a Sudden Death that I somehow managed to win.
Pikachu vs. Megaman went 2-0 for me.
Pikachu vs. Villager came down to a Sudden Death that I lost and I am scared. A frame-perfect Villager is terrifying. A human being would not be capable of landing so many bowling balls right in my face. What the hell.
I don't even dare to imagine what Link and Mario are gonna do with me.
... so on another note, is there any way to check how many coins you got overall? It would be interesting to compare how much practice everyone's been getting.
