And he was an alt costume in P:M because he was the same guy in different clothes.note
But she still looks the same.

"It's liberating, realizing you never need to be competent." — UltimatepheerLucina is basically a second Marth with her damage overall evened out instead of being concentrated at the tip of her sword.
I mean, I like Lucina, and I think she's a fine and dandy addition, but let's not pretend she isn't exactly that.
I'm not against clones, per se, but they need to be included in a way that makes sense, and hey, Lucina makes sense.
I sure said that! Why is everyone still trying to argue with Blueblur? Look at that avatar and name. That's the face of someone who's right no matter what.
I usually hate "this clone character can have a different moveset" arguments because it does nothing for the flavor to give one character horizontal slashes or vertical ones, and giving someone like Toon Link an entirely different set of specials would just exacerbate the problem of him being "the other Link", but Dark Samus is literally a mass of evil energy and stuff that just happened to took Samus' shape. That aside, her potential moveset might as well be Cthulhu's. So unless she's being handled by unimaginative and/or lazy people, I can't say I agree with the argument that she would be a boring clone who brings nothing interesting to the table.
... What I'm trying to say is that I think Dark Samus should've been referred to as Prime or Metroid Prime or something other than Dark Samus, because then we wouldn't be splitting hairs over all this.
EDIT: And you actually already covered that. This is what I get for posting after being jarred awake at four in the morning.

I sure said that!
I am left with no choice but to accept that oxymoronic claim and non-sequitur ending statement as reasonable.

It's an odd case. By all means the origin of Dark Samus actually makes a lot of sense. On the other hand, the creators still created the premise leading to its creation with the intended end result of a "Dark Samus" in mind. So I don't know what to think of how original Dark Samus really is as a character. An interesting twist on a common trope, I guess.
PS: I hope you'll manage to have a nice day anyway, whether you manage to get back to sleep or not.

Actually, the tease at the end of Metroid Prime was just intended to be a fun little extra - Retro didn't expect a sequel to be greenlit, let alone so quickly. I expect the Dark Samus name stuck due to the dark world theme of Echoes and the established doppelgänger naming convention, which then carried over to the sequel. A shame, as even if they didn't keep the Metroid Prime name, the name given to her in the Pirate logs, 'the Dark Hunter', would have been infinitely preferable.
...I still think naming her Dark Samus was a bit of deliberate misdirection on the part of Retro in regards to how to best fight her- Despite being named Dark, she's originally from the light universe and thus is weak to the Dark Beam.
But Smash! One more week, possibly less for some of us!
I sure said that!Ah, right- I don't think I was ever around when you were talking about it. What're you especially interested in this time around, Faw? I myself want to get a good grasp on Robin and the revamped Pit, among other things I can't mention in this particular thread.

I sure said that!So quick question, the assist trophy in the demo, That is Dark Samus, as opposed to SA-X right? Because I honestly thought it was SA-X, particularly with the ice beam spam.
Apocalypse: Dirge Of Swans. That's Dark Samus. She's shooting Phazon, the Prime subseries' Green Rocks that happens to be a blue glowing gel/energy thing. They put some effort into her model, interestingly enough- Her design mostly comes from her Prime 3 appearance, but there's a few changes her and there, like her arm cannon being shaped a little more like the Other M Power Suit's.

I sure said that!

But Dark Samus would be a completely different moveset compared to Young Link and Melee Dr. Mario...
