We don't control you. You don't have to play by our rules. We won't send the Fox Squad and force you to wavedash or something like that.
And different playstyles have nothing to do with fairness. If I get totally thrashed by someone more skilled than me, it's fair and I've lost with dignity. If a bob-mob spawns into my attack and my opponent hits a Smash Ball with the Cracker Launcher that spawned at their feet, I feel cheated.

And I don't force people to play by those rules. By participating in a tournament with those rules, the people playing are agreeing to them. We're talking about what those rules could be for the people who choose to play by them.

Your loss, frankly. But that's just my opinion.

"It's liberating, realizing you never need to be competent." — UltimatepheerSo, probably late to the party, but I just found out that the US commercials for Smash 3DS are out. The Little Mac one
is probably my favorite.
Here are the other
two.

I try to open my horizons as much as possible when playing, I like trying new things to do in games so it becomes less repetitive each time I play. I would play both casual and competitive, however I never got into the competitive scene, maybe I'll do that with 4 once it's released just to get a feel for it.
I've BEEN in tourneys. And the limited rules and regulations pissed me off because everyone else was so damn picky about what we could do. And NO, it wasn't to make it fair or balanced. Ban a stage? Fine. Mocking me because I use Sonic? Not fine. Doing it the whole FUCKING MATCH? Even worse. Banning Smash Balls only to use them anyway because 'They're so kewl lolz!'
Fuck that shit. It turned me off from ever playing another tourney again.
And to top it off those fuckers kicked me out after I won because I kicked their asses. Nevermind played fairly.

Mocked you for picking a character and broke their own rules? And then being sore losers? That doesn't sound like any tournament I'd care about.

"It's liberating, realizing you never need to be competent." — UltimatepheerHonestly, the tourney scene is kinda strange with smash.
The only ban I agreed with in brawl was Meta Knight.
Because my school's game club had an exhibition match where it was three players vs one meta knight player, and Meta Knight won. Not because the meta knight player was so much better, but because "Lol flight," followed closely by "Lol edge guarding" and "Lol Mach Tornado"
I once participated in a tourney. Specifically, Project M in Apex 2014. I lost the first match, using Ganondorf and Wolf, only managing to take off two of my opponent's lives during one round. Going to that tournament was likely my single great video game-related accomplishment.
"What's out there? What's waiting for me?"My main problem with Smash as a competitive game is that it was never really meant to be one, and this is something that bleeds into every aspect of competitive smash. you have to disable significant portions of the game, certain characters are clearly superior to others, etc. it just has a tourney scene because people will make anything competitive. i'm not telling people how to play or how to enjoy smash, i just think some things make more sense to take competitively than others.
my general philosophy is "try to win, but also dick around as much as possible by picking gimmicky stages and having items on".

Frankly, it upsets me when people accuse me of being a "Stop Having Fun" Guys.
I don't like the "it's a party game, get the fuck over it" mentality. Party games are Finagle's Law incarnate when I play them. Even when it's all humans, the computer somehow still manages to be a cheating bastard. I'm left absolutely helpless because the RNG happened to toggle a 1 instead of a 0. And excuse me if I don't enjoy that.

Generally, they either know how to manage their time, actually have a lot of time on their hands, or are fast learners. Everyone learns at a different pace, which is why I'm certain that I'll never be good enough to be considered at the competitive level. At least with Smash.
That may change with this installment, but I doubt it...

Playing against those dicks is NOT fun. And they're common. Especially in casual play.
I turned competitive because I wasn't having fun in casual play.
